2019 Park Place Dealerships – Texas Rangers Triple Play Game Show Spectacular Breaks Record with $770,000 Raised

Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Escapes to Margaritaville

With a playful theme of “Escape to Margaritaville,” fans filled the Hilton Anatole ballroom May 5th looking for rare treasures, unbridled laughter and fun encounters with their favorite players and coaches at the sold-out 2019 Park Place Dealerships – Texas Rangers Triple Play Game Show Spectacular. And the Rangers hit a grand slam!

“The Park Place Dealerships – Texas Rangers Triple Play has always been our largest fundraising event and this year’s total made a record $770,000,” said Karin Morris, executive director of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. “The funds raised at this event directly impact our programming and partnerships. Since last year’s event, we have welcomed more than 25,000 kids to the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota.”

The annual event featured Texas Rangers players, coaches, broadcasters, and alumni. Fans enjoyed unparalleled access to their favorite Rangers for autographs, photos and lively baseball conversations with a player, coach, former Rangers player or staff member seated at their table.

“This is the 15th year Park Place has been involved in this event and every year it surpasses our expectations,” said Jordan Case, Park Place Dealerships president. “Supporting the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation ensures children throughout North Texas will have opportunities to succeed through scholarships, new training facilities, and programs. Together, we are making our community stronger.”

The live and silent auctions raised more than $225,000, also a record. The highest amount in the live auction was a $31,000 bid for a trip on a private jet with Hall of Fame catcher Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez to see the Rangers play against the Angels in Anaheim. The amount was doubled when the Rangers agreed to allow both of the two top bidders to take the trip for a total of $62,000 for the dream trip.

Other notable experiences included a roadtrip to Boston to see the Rangers play the Red Sox that included transportation on the team plane and dining with Hall of Fame pitcher Dennis Eckersley; a trip to the Dominican Republic for a tour of the Rangers’ new Baseball Academy; private hitting and pitching lessons with current Rangers players, and many other exclusive experiences. Memorabilia from the worlds of sports and entertainment included a license plate signed by the stars of “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off;” a framed photo autographed by legendary players Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio; an autographed seat back from the original Texas Stadium; a photo signed by the cast of “The Sandlot;” and countless signed jerseys and equipment from a wide range of sports.

Fans and players competed against each other in a spirited game of Heads or Tails. Tim Willett, auctioneer, would flip a coin and contestants placed their hands on either their head or derriere. If the coin landed on tails, all those with hands on their heads would sit down.

Contestants were eliminated round by round until only two people were left on stage. Willett tossed the coin for one final flip, and Leta Farnsworth won tickets to the Paul McCartney and Billy Joel concerts later this year at Globe Life Park.

The highlight of the evening is always when the players compete in a pair of game shows. The entertainment began with a new game: Heads Up, where a player holds a card up to their forehead with a word or name written on it. Their teammates then give them clues to try to guess the answer. Rangers pitchers Jesse Chavez and Chris Martin were teamed up with catcher Jeff Mathis to battle Rangers’ bullpen coach Oscar Marin and pitchers Shelby Miller and Drew Smyly. The resulting antics were hilarious as players stammered and shouted answers under pressure as they tried to beat the clock. Jesse Chavez was holding a card with “Kanye West” on it and his teammates prompted him with, “Kim Kardashian’s husband!” To which Chavez replied, “Chloe?” The audience erupted in laughter.

The Rangers’ rookies never fail to entertain. Kyle Dowdy, Brett Martin, Adrian Sampson and Ariel Jurado performed a hysterical skit to “Old Town Road” by Lil Nas X, featuring Billy Ray Cyrus. Don’t worry. They won’t be taking this show on the road any time soon. But it certainly made for some memorable moments.

If you think the Rangers are competitive on the field, imagine what happens when the infielders match wits with the outfielders in Fielders Feud, a popular spinoff of the popular Family Feud TV game show. Players tried to guess the top answers given by 100 Rangers fans in a survey taken at Globe Life Park. Both teams were stumped when it came time to guess the fans’ responses to the question, “What are your favorite memories from Globe Life Park?”

Rangers Hall of Fame broadcaster Eric Nadel moderates Fielders Feud with Infielders Isiah Kiner-Falefa , Logan Forsythe, Rougned Odor and Elvis Andrus competing against Outfielders Hunter Pence, Delino DeShields Jr, Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara

Players were able to match answers such as “Beltre’s 3000th hit” and “Striking out A-Rod in the ALCS.” But the crowd let out a gasp when “Rougie’s Punch” was not one of the top answers.

“The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation was recognized last year with the Allan H. Selig Award for Philanthropic Excellence for our Richard Greene Scholars program,” concluded Karin Morris. “As part of this recognition, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation will receive a $10,000 grant from Major League Baseball Charities.”

Named after the former Mayor of Arlington who led the campaign to keep the Rangers in Arlington and construct Globe Life Park, the Richard Greene Scholars program provides a $10,000 scholarship every year to a student at each of the Arlington ISD high schools. During the recipient’s senior year, he/she rotates through an internship every six weeks at different community service and local government entities.

Now in its 22nd year of operation, the Richard Greene Scholars program has provided more than $1.2 million in college scholarships to Arlington high school students. In addition to financial aid, the program has become a cornerstone leadership development program by engaging recipients with local civic and business communities, including Arlington ISD, the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, the City of Arlington, the Texas Rangers and the Rangers Baseball Foundation, and several other civic partners.

Since its inception in 1991, the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation has invested more than $30 million in our community to help children through support of programs including the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota; youth fitness and wellness programs like the just keep livin programs; scholarships and summer programming for children in challenging circumstances.

Inspiring Bespoke: Bentley Debuts Continental GT Number 9 Edition

Bentley Debuts Racing Model to Inspire Bespoke Creations. Book your bespoke experience at Bentley Dallas.

As Bentley produces their illustrious 2019 models to honor its 100th anniversary, the British automaker debuted a rare Continental GT to celebrate the milestone.

A jaw-dropping Bentley Continental GT Number 9 Edition appeared at the Geneva Motor Show early March. The Number 9 Edition pays homage to Sir Henry Ralph Stanley ‘Tim’ Birkin – one of the original ‘Bentley Boys’ of the 1920s and 1930s. Mulliner – Bentley’s in-house commissioning facility – manufactured the Continental GT that takes inspiration from the historic motorsport legacy. Only 100 Number 9 Edition models will be available this year following its hand built production in Crewe, England.

The Original No.9

The original No.9 was commissioned by Birkin, who was also a Bentley customer, investor, and racing driver. Following their use during World War I in aero engines, superchargers became more commonly tested on cars. A British designer and engineer, Amehurst Villiers, teamed up with Birkin to develop a supercharger that would increase performance. The supercharger would increase power and speed due to its positioning in front of the engine.

Nicknamed the ‘Blower,’ the 4.5L machine was raced at the 1930 Le Mans 24 Hours event by Birkin, who set a lap record at the track. The first No.9, which was also driven by D.J. Benefield and Eddie Hall, finished 2nd at the BRDC 500 mile event in 1930. Amazingly, each model produced today will include a wood insert from the seat of the original 1930 No.9 race car. The centenary vehicle was an imposing green car that eventually became regarded as the legendary racing Bentley of the pre-war period.

Each Number 9 Edition will have exterior components that feature an eye-popping ‘9’ graphic in the grille as well as special badge work, paint, and wheels. Interior stylings are highlighted by an exclusively crafted dashboard and special ‘Blower’ subtleties for the door panels and seating. All 100 models will also include 18K gold plated organ stops inspired by the original No.9 ‘Blower,’ and ‘1 of 100’ treadplates.

Today’s Bentley Continental models continue to deliver a stunning appearance with every glance and turn. Park Place clients are encouraged to bespoke their own Bentley models or view inventory to find special commissioned models available for sale. Bentley Begins 100 Year Celebration with Oldest Bentley In Existence

Classic Bentley Ready for Centenary Year

Bentley begins their centenary year with a list of upcoming celebrations around the globe.

In 1919 Walter Owen (W.O.) Bentley created a company with a simple objective: to build “a fast car, a good car, the best in its class”. This guiding principle has driven Bentley ever since, pushing the brand forward and making it a unquestionable leader in automotive luxury around the world today, and locally, in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

To kick off the 100th year, Bentley has the oldest remaining and first racing model- the EXP 2- on display at the Retromobile, Paris. This display was just the start of the first global event, which ended on February 10, letting attendees explore the 100 year history of Bentley Motors, in an exclusive and personal setting. And the EXP 2, well, it’s nothing short of an extraordinary piece of history.

The Oldest Surviving & First Racing Bentley

The EXP (or Experimental) was one of W.O Bentley’s first three racing prototypes. The EXP 1 was constructed at the New Street Mews off Baker Street in October 1919. Later that same year (1919) the EXP 2 was built at a new workshop in Cricklewood, and eventually the EXP 3. This third prototype is better known as the “Cab” and W.O. Bentley’s personal car.

The EXP 2 is the oldest Bentley in existence, which was first debuted at the 1919 Olympia Motor Show. It is only fitting that the centenary celebration kicks off which such prominent homage to the infamous ‘Cricklewood era’ of Bentley Motors.

Fun Fact: the EXP 2 is powered by a 2.0 liter four cylinder engine and can reach a top speed of 80mph. For comparison, the 2018 Bentley Continental GT can reach top speeds of over 200mph (and that’s not even the GT3 track car).

A Global Calendar of Events

The next event will take place in Boca Raton, Florida on February 22-24, followed by W.O. Bonhams Exhibition on the 11th of Paris in London. The full calendar can be found online at BentleyMedia.com, but we encourage you to celebrate the centenary in your own back yard.

Share your story of Bentley passion, comment on why this luxury manufacturer made it to your automotive wish list, post a photo of your favorite Bentley memory, and, of course, stay tuned as we begin to honor the heritage of W.O. Bentley locally at Bentley Dallas. For all inquiries, visit us at 5300 Lemmon Avenue or schedule an appointment/view inventory by following this link:https://bit.ly/2GMUCgX

All-Stars Visit Park Place Premier Collection for After School Experience

After School All Stars provides children with comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life. Heath Strayhan, General Manager at Park Place Premier Collection, is also an Advisory Board Member for After-School All Stars because of the program’s impact on kids in the community:

“In the middle school age group, these children are exposed to many negative influences between the hours of 3 and 6 during the week because they are often home along. ASAS not only occupies their time, but maximizes it by teaching life sills and exposing them to career choice possibilities they did not know existed.

So, when a need for a new after school excursion came up, Heath didn’t hesitate to step up and offer experiencing some our most premier level vehicles and the opportunity to learn about the various careers in automotive.

“It’s a perfect fit. We decided that, as opposed to me speaking at a school, we would immerse them in our dealership environment and introduce them to people who have taken advantage of career opportunities  that are available.  I also love an excuse to give out free cookies and hot chocolate,” said Strayhan.

The day began with the children arriving at the Premier Collection Service Center off Northwest Highway, where they were able tour the client lounge and get a sneak peek at some our high-performance supercars in the front showroom.

Afterwards, they met with Assistant Service Manager, Sharon Stanley, who explained how integral her role is in ensuring a great client experience.  Sharon’s role is to connect the dots between our parts department, Service Technicians, and valuable clients.

Afterwards, the kids ventured into our McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Maserati workshops, where they witnessed technicians performing repairs, live.  To top it all off, the group of All-Stars also were shown a few of Mr. Earl’s (one of the Premier Technicians) favorite tools, which became a hit with the group.

While walking through each service bay, a few of the kids mentioned how cool it would be to work at Park Place and get to work around such cool cars- and as you can imagine, that just warmed the hearts of our Park Place team members who had the chance to share their story.

Before heading over to the New Car Showroom off Lemmon Avenue,  the AS-AS group had the opportunity to meet our Inventory Control Specialist, Niki, who actually received her full-time job after interning with Park Place in High School. Her story is especially meaningful to these kids and was General Manager Heath’s favorite part of the day too:

“My favorite Part of the Day was when Niki told the group a little about her history, how she came to work for us through the internship program, and how vital and important her role is in our organization.”

Fast forward to a small bus trip to the Lemmon Avenue Dealership, the kids were greeted with fresh hot chocolate and cookies to refresh the students before learning all about our premier brands.  Malcolm Gage, our New Car Sales Director, ended the day with a short quiz, asking questions like “Where are Bentley’s made?” and let’s just say there wasn’t a shortage of hand raising during this Q&A session.

Tori Schwarzlose, Program Manager at After-School All-Stars shared how important these experiences are to the AS-AS kids:

“Our All-Stars had so much fun learning about new cars and seeing the showroom, but the most impactful part of the field trip was meeting the incredible people that work at Park Place. Each employee got to share about their unique role within Park Place, and it helped expose our All-Stars to career and education paths that they wouldn’t otherwise know. We couldn’t do this work alone, so we are very grateful for our new friends at Park Place and the amazing experience they provided our students!”

The 2nd Annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase Shone Brightly Even in the Rain

Park Place Dealerships donates $55k Sprinter
to Salesmanship Club’s Momentous Institute

Rain or shine. Many outdoor events casually use the term, but few shine in the midst of challenges like the 2nd annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase did on October 13th at the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

“It was an exciting day in a lot of ways,” said Ken Schnitzer, Park Place Dealerships founder and chairman. “The rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of guests and we were able to execute the Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase for the nearly 3,000 people who attended. Many of the private collectors brought their rare and pristine cars out to display them in the Collector’s Concours. The Porsche Club – Maverick Region came together to create an amazing Heritage Display to celebrate Porsche’s 70th anniversary. And we were able to support a wonderful charitable partner in a big way.”

The event benefitted the Momentous Institute, owned and operated by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas since 1920. Each year, the organization serves more than 6,000 children and family members through its nationally acclaimed Momentous School and innovative Therapeutic Services. Schnitzer presented Patton Chapman, Salesmanship Club president, with the keys to a $55,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van to help the organization with its transportation needs for the kids.

Throughout the day, guests saw more than $100 million worth of rare and unique vehicles from manufacturers, collectors and car clubs, including the first public display of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the iconic marque’s first ever SUV. Guests also enjoyed live entertainment, incredible food and beverages, as well as a Highland Park Village fashion show produced by Jan Strimple.

Parents even watched their kids play in the rain, driving miniature electric versions of Porsche, McLaren, Volvo, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus vehicles on the pavestone path. Guests also had the opportunity to meet 16-year-old racecar driver Kinzie “Kiki” Wilson. Featured in her red, racing shirt on the right of her Corvette, the Mansfield Legacy High School Junior is also the Varsity Cheer Captain while maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

Dallas’ Mad Hatter Shane Walker helped judge the Haute Hat Contest. The Lady’s Haute Hat winner was Anna Neiman (below) with a stylish Rolls-Royce-inspired hat that included working lights.

As the day drew to a close, the top three award winners from the Collector’s Concours were presented with the “Spirit of Park Place,” a hand-crafted sculpture by Dallas artist Brad Oldham.

Bentley Celebrates Centennial with 100 Year Details in All New Models

News from Bentley Motors: Bentley is honoring its 100th year by introducing a special Centenary Specification for all of its models.

Inspired by celebrated models and events from the company’s illustrious past, the Centenary Specification will feature on all Bentleys built at the factory in Crewe, England, between January and December 2019.

Centenary badging, distinctive seat embroidery, unique treadplates, and other special details will identify each car as part of the celebrations – ensuring they become true collectors’ items.

Founded in 1919 by W.O. Bentley, the company has been guided by a simple principle to build “a fast car, a good car, the best in its class”.

Through decades of expertise and innovation, Bentley has designed, engineered and built the world’s most desirable Grand Tourers with a unique combination of luxury and performance.

Centenary Specification: A Mark of Distinction

The Centenary Specification is a collection of exquisite detailing that reflects the attention to detail and unrivaled levels of skilled craftsmanship from the brand.

Unique Centenary Gold front and rear badging will match the special wheel center badges and treadplates with a ‘1919-2019’ display. The steering wheel badge, key fob and gear selector all feature a similar use of the celebratory design.

A special centenary welcome light will greet passengers and bespoke seat embroidery has also been created, with Centenary Gold headrest logos and Centenary Gold Contrast Stitch or Cross Stitch available on these special models.

Inspired by the exquisite metalwork found on vintage Bentleys – such as EXP 2 of 1919 and the 1929 ‘Birkin’ Blower – Centenary Gold is a refined metallic gold, honoring the company’s rich heritage and racing triumphs while interpreting for the modern day with an elegant warm tone and a deep fluid shadow.

The color has been specifically crafted to shine and reflect light like jewelry. It will be used in Bentley’s Centenary logo and will be synonymous with Bentley’s celebrations.

The First 100 Extraordinary Years

Born in 1888, founder W.O. Bentley grew up as an engineer enthusiast. It was no surprise to people who knew him that W.O. eventually turned his attention to building cars that would satisfy his own extraordinary expectations as a driver, an engineer and a gentleman.

Bentley Motors was established in 1919 and by September 1921 the first production model was proudly delivered to its owner, Noel van Raalte, at a cost of £1,050. The car carried Bentley’s hallmark radiator casing and Flying ‘B’ insignia.

The Bentley models of the 1920s became some of the most distinctive cars of the era. W.O. also became a fan of developing racing engines and his cars famously triumphed at Brooklands, Indianapolis and the Isle of Man. The legendary achievements of the Bentley Boys brought success at Le Mans on five occasions. For Full Details on Bentley’s Centenary visit www.BentleyMotors.com/100Years

The 2018 Bentley Bentayga Breaks SUV Record at Pikes Peak

The Bentley Bentayga is far from merely extravagant; it’s power and prowess, utility and sport, and the true personification of “no stone left unturned” from the stitching to the powerhouse of the luxury SUV. Similarly, Pike’s Peak

boasts quite a record of its own- standing against the test of time as a place of hikers, campers, nature lovers, family adventurers, and now W12 engines with about 600 horses (hp).

With almost a 5.0 rating on Google, Pikes Peak is reportedly quite the challenge for man and machine, and one that the 2018 Bentley Bentayga dominated at the annual Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. The course is 12.42-miles where vehicles are challenged to climb almost 5,000 feet and attack 156 corners. The Bentayga averaged 66.5 mph, decimating the current record by nearly two minutes with Rhys Millen, a Pikes Peak Hill Climb veteran, at the helm. And no, the SUV wasn’t tricked out with upgrades and modifications to make the climb, but rather to comply within challenge guidelines, the winning SUV was as close to standard production as possible- with the front seats being replaced with racing seats and the back seats being removed among other small modifications.

Speaking immediately after his run, Rhys Millen commented:

“What an incredible machine. To take a luxury SUV with minimal modifications and be able to drive up this course in under 11 minutes is a huge testament to the performance and level of engineering in the Bentayga. I had a great run – the car was planted all the way up and gave me the confidence I needed to push hard. I’m delighted to take the SUV record for Bentley and for everyone that’s been involved in this project.”
