All-Stars Visit Park Place Premier Collection for After School Experience

After School All Stars provides children with comprehensive after-school programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and life. Heath Strayhan, General Manager at Park Place Premier Collection, is also an Advisory Board Member for After-School All Stars because of the program’s impact on kids in the community:

“In the middle school age group, these children are exposed to many negative influences between the hours of 3 and 6 during the week because they are often home along. ASAS not only occupies their time, but maximizes it by teaching life sills and exposing them to career choice possibilities they did not know existed.

So, when a need for a new after school excursion came up, Heath didn’t hesitate to step up and offer experiencing some our most premier level vehicles and the opportunity to learn about the various careers in automotive.

“It’s a perfect fit. We decided that, as opposed to me speaking at a school, we would immerse them in our dealership environment and introduce them to people who have taken advantage of career opportunities  that are available.  I also love an excuse to give out free cookies and hot chocolate,” said Strayhan.

The day began with the children arriving at the Premier Collection Service Center off Northwest Highway, where they were able tour the client lounge and get a sneak peek at some our high-performance supercars in the front showroom.

Afterwards, they met with Assistant Service Manager, Sharon Stanley, who explained how integral her role is in ensuring a great client experience.  Sharon’s role is to connect the dots between our parts department, Service Technicians, and valuable clients.

Afterwards, the kids ventured into our McLaren, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, and Maserati workshops, where they witnessed technicians performing repairs, live.  To top it all off, the group of All-Stars also were shown a few of Mr. Earl’s (one of the Premier Technicians) favorite tools, which became a hit with the group.

While walking through each service bay, a few of the kids mentioned how cool it would be to work at Park Place and get to work around such cool cars- and as you can imagine, that just warmed the hearts of our Park Place team members who had the chance to share their story.

Before heading over to the New Car Showroom off Lemmon Avenue,  the AS-AS group had the opportunity to meet our Inventory Control Specialist, Niki, who actually received her full-time job after interning with Park Place in High School. Her story is especially meaningful to these kids and was General Manager Heath’s favorite part of the day too:

“My favorite Part of the Day was when Niki told the group a little about her history, how she came to work for us through the internship program, and how vital and important her role is in our organization.”

Fast forward to a small bus trip to the Lemmon Avenue Dealership, the kids were greeted with fresh hot chocolate and cookies to refresh the students before learning all about our premier brands.  Malcolm Gage, our New Car Sales Director, ended the day with a short quiz, asking questions like “Where are Bentley’s made?” and let’s just say there wasn’t a shortage of hand raising during this Q&A session.

Tori Schwarzlose, Program Manager at After-School All-Stars shared how important these experiences are to the AS-AS kids:

“Our All-Stars had so much fun learning about new cars and seeing the showroom, but the most impactful part of the field trip was meeting the incredible people that work at Park Place. Each employee got to share about their unique role within Park Place, and it helped expose our All-Stars to career and education paths that they wouldn’t otherwise know. We couldn’t do this work alone, so we are very grateful for our new friends at Park Place and the amazing experience they provided our students!”

Volvo’s Vision for the Future of Travel: the 360c Concept

Imagine a fully mobile work space that not only made your commute hassle free, but let you actually work or relax while going from point A to point B. Imagine if this fully functional work space could eventually be offered by employers or even on subscription basis.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well not for Volvo Cars who’s mission makes the automotive experience easier and more enjoyable for drivers and passengers alike. Much of this can attributed to their overall design approach, putting the human before any technology advances or upgrades- ensuring it’s executed in a way to positively influence an experience, rather than merely stay up-to-date for the sake of well, staying up-to-date.

Volvo Cars released the 360c Autonomous Concept earlier this fall as a tangible view of the company’s vision for the future of travel. The concept itself reflects the ever-changing structure and design by which people live, something any retailer or automotive manufacturer alike can struggle to achieve.  By transforming unproductive or boring commutes into useful and enjoyable minutes (or hours) on the road, then yes, Volvo Cars has the ability to possibly transform the well-being of their riders with four scenarios built in: sleeping space, mobile office, living room, and entertainment space.

“The 360c explores what becomes possible when we remove the human driver, using new freedoms in design and recapturing time – it’s a glimpse at how autonomous drive technology will change the world as we know it. The possibilities are mind-boggling,” said Mårten Levenstam, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Volvo Cars.

Fully autonomous and electric travel offers a range of advanced safety and environmental benefits, such as less pollution, less traffic congestion, and related health and lifestyle advantages for those living in cities. It also opens up possibilities for more residential freedom, reduced pressure on real estate pricing and more affordable home ownership.

“People becoming less reliant on proximity to cities is just one example of the impact of removing the burden of unproductive travel time,” said Mårten Levenstam. “The 360c driving office makes it viable for people to live at greater distances from crowded cities and use their time both in a more pleasant and more effective way.”

The 360c is based on a fully autonomous, electric car without a human driver. It reimagines how people travel, how they engage with friends, family and contacts, and how they can recapture time while travelling.

This is just the start, but Volvo Cars President comments this design concept is just the conversation starter as more ideas and answers make their way to the Volvo team of engineers and designers.

“It will have a profound impact on how people travel, how we design our cities and how we use infrastructure. But we are just one of many stakeholders, so we expect and invite a broad discussion as society learns how to make the most of this revolutionary technology.” – Marten Levenstam

Cindy Allen, Editor in Chief of Interior Design said, “At Interior Design we seek out the most cutting edge projects and products—whether luxury condo, carpet, or car. And it’s the elite of this elite that take home our Best of Year Awards, a status that Volvo continues to exemplify. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have one of the world’s most iconic brands participate—and win—in our innovation category with the 360c, and look forward to seeing what they enter next year.”

New LF-1 Limitless Lexus Concept Makes Debut

The Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept vehicle makes its New York City debut at the newly opened INTERSECT BY LEXUS. It will remain on display through Sunday, Jan. 20, 2019. The Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept, which made its global debut at the 2018 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, introduces a new genre of luxury vehicle: the flagship crossover.

Combining high performance with unrestrained luxury, the Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept is a showcase of technology, innovation and the latest evolution of design at Lexus.

Visitors to INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC, a unique brand and cultural space, will have a front-row view to the luxury crossover concept vehicle.  Following successful launches in Tokyo and Dubai, INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC resides in the heart of the city’s vibrant Meatpacking District and continues the brand’s commitment to supporting innovation on a local, national and global level.

“We’re thrilled to introduce the Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept vehicle to guests of INTERSECT. The LF-1 Limitless concept is our vision of a new kind of flagship vehicle that incorporates imaginative technology while creating a strong emotional connection,” said Kirk Edmondson, general manager of INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC. “Showcasing the vehicle in New York is a natural choice, as INTERSECT will deliver creative, exceptional moments to the city and beyond just as this concept vehicle delivers limitless possibilities.”

The innovative spirit of the Lexus LF-1 Limitless was created at CALTY Design Research in California.

The design language is rooted in the simple, yet elegant design concept dubbed “molten katana.” Like molten metal being forged into a fine Japanese sword, the lines of the Lexus LF-1 Limitless concept have the potential to shape the future of a flagship crossover for Lexus. Imagining that shift from a smooth, flowing mass into a solid chiseled shape formed the basis for the fluid, yet aggressive design of the LF-1 Limitless. The concept’s exaggerated dash-to-axle ratio gives it an athletic profile that’s more sports car than station wagon. Combined with a cabin that sits deep within the rear-wheel drive chassis and aggressive 22-inch wheels barely contained under bulging fenders, the LF-1 has a powerful stance that conveys its performance intentions at a glance. Like all current Lexus models, the spindle grille on the LF-1 is a core element to the overall design. The grille itself features a three-dimensional design with colors developed in-house by CALTY.

INTERSECT BY LEXUS – NYC is located at 412 West 14th Street New York, New York 10014. Starting in January 2019, the restaurant will serve lunch seven days a week from 11:30-3PM. Dinner will be available Sunday-Wednesday from 5PM-10PM and Thursday-Saturday from 5PM-11PM.  The café is open from 7AM-7PM seven days a week. Lexus’ All-New Luxury Crossover is a Market Changer

Lexus is determined to set itself apart and establish itself as a competitor in the luxury automotive industry. And there really is no doubt; Lexus’ strategic design choices, recent releases like the ever-iconic and ultra-luxurious Lexus LS and three-row RXL, and the intense focus on the client experience have elevated Lexus to a whole new market of consumers (cue our millennial audience).

The brand new, class entering Lexus UX Crossover closes the gap between 4 door sedan and full-size SUV, to give our drivers a more compact machine without sacrificing the space they love in traditional luxury SUVs. According to the manufacturer, the new innovative design for their first-ever crossover ‘juxtaposes bold urban design with unmistakable strength’ – clear when looking at the bold, yet aerodynamic lines in their preview imagery.

“The first-ever Lexus UX is designed for the modern urban explorer seeking a fresh, contemporary and dynamic take on luxury driving,” said Chika Kako, Executive Vice President of Lexus International and Chief Engineer of the UX. “We designed the UX to appeal to buyers in their 30s who seek not only what is new and exciting, but what is also relevant to their lifestyles.”

Elegant, yet striking and crisp design includes a uniquely design tail lamp with an interior based on intuitive technology will not just meet but exceed the millennial seeking contemporary, youthful design, Lexus-level reliability, and seamless performance.

The New Porsche 911 Receives An Upgraded Digital Experience

Porsche premiered the new (and still iconic as ever) 911 at the L.A. Autoshow.  Sporting an unmistakable Porsche design, the new 911 features a more muscular look and a 10.9-inch touchscreen monitor. In addition to body and styling adjustments, this new 911 features some impressive digital upgrades to truly embrace how the client and driver experience is changing and becoming more digital than ever before.

A Brief Overview

Overall, the drive efficiency has improved thanks to a revised injection process and a new layout for the turbochargers and charge air cooling system, according to Porsche’s November 28th Press Release.  The Porsche Power and Performance is delivered by a newly developed eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, accented with new assistance systems to make drives safer and even more effortless with help from the Porsche Road Trip App.

Digital Innovations for a Curated Client Experience

Some of the newest innovations for the sportscar manufacturer are found in the digital details of the 911, including the Road Trip app mentioned previously.

  1. Porsche Road Trip: This app brings back the nostalgia of summer road trips but in an amped-up fashion. Porsche Road Trip supports car enthusiasts in planning, organizing, and navigating special trips. Create completely unique experiences with curated routes, exclusive hotel, and restaurant accommodations, and key points of interest as you make your way along the road.
  2. Porsche 360+: Allows the client to enjoy the Porsche experience away from the vehicle. How? According to Porsche, the heart of this program is the lifestyle assistance for clients. The assistant’s purpose? To make your everyday life easier.
  3. Porsche Impact: measures and calculates emissions. With the new design, the new 911 decreases its emissions, so this new digital upgrade is a consistent feature with Porsche’s mechanical enhancements. The Porsche Impact measures the financial contributions that Porsche clients pay to offset their CO2 footprint.  The programs are open to the client to choose and are spread all over the world with focuses on wind, hydro, solar power, and forest protection.

Rolls-Royce Cullinan Takes North Texas Highways by Storm

Social media was buzzing December 1 – 3 with unusual sightings across North Texas. Reports of a large SUV with a massive Rolls-Royce-style grill spotted around the Crespi Estate in Dallas. It was said to be unusually quick and extraordinarily nimble.

There were reports of it rambling off road at the D’Vine Grace Vineyards in McKinney, all four wheels gripping the uneven terrain as it scaled hills like a gazelle.

Then, it was spotted regally wafting down the Chisholm Trail Parkway in Fort Worth,  sparkling like the rare diamond for which it was named.

Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dallas confirmed it was the source for the remarkable sightings of the Cullinan, Rolls-Royce’s first all-wheel drive, high-bodied vehicle. Rolls-Royce Motor Cars invited guests to drive the “Rolls-Royce of SUVs” both on and off the road.

After an exhilarating drive, guests relaxed with margaritas made with Uno Por Favor Tequila at the Crespi Estate; a glass of Whispering Angel Rosé at D’Vine Grace Vineyards; or a taste of Fist Full of Bourbon at Park Place Bodywerks in Fort Worth.

The “Rolls-Royce of SUVs” has arrived, making the concept of “Luxury Effortless, Everywhere” a fact. The Cullinan is the only SUV capable of delivering the renowned ‘Magic Carpet Ride’ on any surface — whether paved or uneven terrain.

This beautiful beast sports a powerful 6.75 Liter twin-turbo V12 engine that delivers 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque to the all-wheel drive and all-wheel steering system that can conquer any challenge. Despite its hefty weight of nearly three tons, it can accelerate from 0-to-60 mph in 6.3 seconds and reach a top speed of 155 mph. Comfortably. Effortlessly. And nearly soundlessly. Its sound insulation is so superb, you have to roll down the window to hear if the engine is running. The front tires are even filled with foam to reduce road noise.

If you wish to take the Cullinan off-road (and you certainly must) simply push the “Off Road” button and the computerized system will automatically raise the vehicle, read the terrain and select the proper gear, adjust the suspension, and continuously deliver the exact power to each wheel as needed. Effortlessly. Everywhere.

Of course, the Cullinan has the famed umbrella inside the door frame. But it also has a distinctive feature that speaks to Rolls-Royce’s attention to detail. The umbrella compartment is tied into the HVAC system. So if you return a wet umbrella into the frame, it will dry it as you drive.

While the Cullinan is a driver-focused vehicle, the rear passenger compartment offers the best seat in the house. Those in the rear sit higher on Rolls-Royce’s Pavilion Seating, enjoying grandstand views of their surroundings thanks to large side windows and a panoramic glass roof. And if they wish, they can zero in on their location on the rear touchscreen map.

Two rear configurations are offered – Lounge Seats, which will accommodate three passengers or Individual Seating for two. In the Lounge Seat configuration, the rear seats fold down, a first for Rolls-Royce. The seats fold electronically in a number of configurations. One press causes each backrest to effortlessly fold down, while moving the headrests upwards simultaneously to avoid making an imprint on the seat. Both seat backs can be folded down completely, creating a flat load area, or in a 2/3 and 1/3 split.

The Individual Seat configuration offers two rear seats separated by a fixed center console containing a refrigerated drink cabinet, replete with Rolls-Royce glasses, decanter and champagne flutes. Each individual seat can move in a number of planes for ultimate comfort. And, of course, they are heated and vented with remarkable massage capabilities.

This configuration also creates the first “three-box” SUV. Inspired by the age when one never traveled in the same compartment as one’s luggage, a glass partition isolates the luggage compartment from the passenger compartment, creating an inner ecosystem for the occupants. In addition to enhanced silence, the sealed cabin allows the optimum temperature for passengers even when the rear hatch is open.

For the first time ever a Rolls-Royce has an opening tailgate. The Cullinan’s rear “Clasp” opens and closes in two sections.

The Cullinan comes alive at the touch of a button on the key, or by simply touching its stainless steel door handle with the key on the driver’s person. The carriage lowers itself by 40mm to make entry effortless, as the iconic coach doors stand open wide to welcome driver and passengers to their next adventure. Access to the cabin has never been easier, thanks to completely flat floors in both the front and rear compartments.

Driver and passengers can close the doors with a touch of a button. Or touch the sensor on the exterior door handles and the doors automatically close from the outside.

Press the start button and the Cullinan rises 40mm before taking its occupants on the smoothest ride possible.

For the first time, the central information screen is touch sensitive, allowing the driver to quickly select functions, map views and vehicle settings. Or one can access the portal from the iconic Spirit of Ecstasy controller on the central console along with the ‘Off-Road’ button, Hill Descent Control button and Air Suspension height adjustment controls.

Other cutting-edge technology that makes the Cullinan the most technologically advanced car of its type includes: Night Vision and Vision Assist, including daytime/night-time wildlife & pedestrian warning; Alertness Assistant; a four-camera system with panoramic view, all-round visibility and helicopter view; Active Cruise Control; Collision Warning; Cross-Traffic Warning, Lane Departure and Lane Change Warning; an industry-leading 7×3 high-resolution Heads-Up Display, WiFi hotspot, and the latest Navigation and Entertainment Systems. All electronic devices can be charged via five USB ports around the cabin, while phones can be wirelessly charged in the front of the cabin.

Starting at $325,000, options for customization of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan are only limited by one’s imagination.

Improved Performance: Porsche Macan Launches with New V6 Engine

Officially launched in Shanghai, the new Macan represents the addition of power to Porsche’s range of compact SUVs thanks to its new three-liter V6 turbocharged petrol engine with a gasoline particulate filter.

For reference on engines and the various types of engines in our luxury cars, we invite you to visit our Engines 101 blog post.

The new Macan engine delivers 260 kW, an increase of 10 kW when compared to the previous model. In addition to a new engine design, the new Macan S will feature all the product innovations as of late, including the rear, LED light bar and a fully networked Porsche Communication Management system.

New V6 Engine with Central Layout

The central turbo layout means the turbocharger is located in the inner V, which results in short exhaust gas paths between combustion chambers and the turbocharger. In short, this layout ensures immediate responsiveness for a more powerful performance.

The new twin turbocharger provides the Macan with high torque (ability to accelerate) at low engine speeds. The further-developed combustion chamber geometry with a central injector promotes efficient fuel mixture preparation. In addition to the increase in the power output per liter, from 113 to 118 PS, the emissions have also been reduced.

Newly tuned chassis for enhanced balance

New light alloy design is more rigid and reduces unsprung mass, making the steering on the Macan more precise and improving ride comfort. Newly tuned sway bars also ensure more neutral handling. As before, the Porsche Active Stability Management (PASM) active damper control system, height-adjustable air suspension with optimized rolling pistons and new shock absorber hydraulics and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV Plus) are optionally available to improve the model’s driving dynamics and handling even further.

Enhanced Brakes for an Enhanced Drive

The Macan S includes updates for a smoother, more precise handling experience and faster acceleration, but engineers also took it a step further to improve the brake pedal design. The new pedal weighs 300g less than the previous component and uses a shortened lever arm to act on the brake master cylinder. Similar to a more immediate acceleration due to the central engine layout, the new brake pedal provides a more immediate response when the driver presses the pedal. In addition, the new pedal design ensures the driver can feel the firm connection when pressing down, adding more natural peace of mind.

New Macan Options

The optional GT sports steering wheel, typically found in the 911, reaffirms the sporty interior design of the new Macan S. Nuances of the original Sport Chrono Package are integrated into the steering wheel, including mode switch and the sport response button. Other options include Traffic Jam Assist, a heated windshield, and an ionizer which can improve the quality of the air inside the vehicle.

Stay tuned to Park Place Porsche and Porsche Grapevine for more info this coming year on the New Macan.
