The Cat’s Meow

The Sensible Jaguar

Even if you’re into penny pinching, you may find the upgrade to the XF 3.0 worth the extra investment. According to “Car and Driver,” it has a smoother delivery than the base XF, which made them quip: “Check the sofas; you may have another $3,000 for the V-6 in there somewhere.”

The only way to determine if you should go for the XF 3.0 is to test drive both variants. Many drivers may not notice the difference. The same irreverent reviewer at “Car and Driver” celebrated the “tactile steering” and “techno update on old-world opulence” in the base model’s interior.

Luxury Standards

In either the base XF or XF 3.0, you can switch to manual mode with the paddle shifters and turn your domesticated ride into a ferocious beast. Other standard features include push-button start; Xenon headlamps with LED lights; heated, leather, power-adjusting front seats; parking sensors; sunroof; and an infotainment system that includes a 250-watt 10-speaker audio system.

2014 Lexus IS: The A-Z Review

The exterior of the new IS may have the most radical version of Lexus’ new spindle grill, but there’s a lot more to the redesign than just a styling refresh. This new design adds a major dose of refinement, turning a competent car into a serious player in the sports sedan market.

Performance
While most of its competitors have moved to turbocharged four cylinders, the IS 250 still uses a naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter V6 producing 205 horsepower and 185 lb-ft. of torque. This trades some low-end grunt for faster throttle response and better top end performance. The IS 350 gets a 3.5 liter with 306 horsepower and 277 lb-ft. of torque, letting the car go from 0-60 mph in as little as 5.6 seconds. Both cars can be equipped with either rear or all wheel drive.

The manual is gone, leaving buyers with a 6-speed automatic in the IS250, while the IS350 gets the 8-speed auto once used only in the IS F Sport. That heritage shows with rapid shifts from the paddle shifters.

The brakes are much bigger this time around with 11-inch discs on the IS250 and a combination of 13-inch front discs and 12-inch rear discs on the IS350. The result is shorter stopping distances, significantly less fade and better feel.

The revised suspension removes the twitchiness of its predecessor, providing a compliant ride with plenty of grip. The chassis remains composed at high speeds, requiring a significant effort to get the rear end to slide out.

The revised steering rack improves on-center feel and adds some heft when turning the wheel. Turn-in is quick, and the recalibrated electric power steering offers a surprising amount of feel.

Interior
Inside, the IS has an interior design unique in Lexus’ lineup with a slim horizontal dash and controls tilted toward the driver for easier access. The new seats are far more comfortable than the outgoing model, and some minor reshaping of the rear windows has improved visibility.

The F Sport
This performance package is available on both the IS250 and IS350 with either rear or all wheel drive. The powertrains remain untouched aside from the addition of a sound tube that channels some extra engine noise into the cabin. The key addition of the package is the Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS) that transforms the IS from a sports sedan into a track day-ready car. In Sports+ mode, it’s 20% stiffer than the outgoing F Sport, making the car track straight in the most difficult corners.

Inside, the seats are more heavily bolstered, while the stock gauges are replaced by a digital cluster similar to the LFA’s, letting the driver see just a speedometer and tachometer, or bring up additional information as needed.

It sounds like a riddle: what can see like a human, sometimes doesn’t need a human, is well-lit without light bulbs, and comes with its own hot stone massage? 2014 Maserati Ghibli to Debut in Dallas

Overview

The Maserati Ghibli,soon to be available at Park Place Maserati Dallas, sedan combines dramatic style, sporty performance, athletic spirit and first-rate comfort for everyday inspired driving accompanied by the ultimate soundtrack from its engine. As the first mid-sized four-door luxury sedan from Maserati, the Ghibli earns its rightful place as a major milestone in Maserati history.

The 2014 Maserati Ghibli is a rebirth of the original two-door, two-seater GT that was released in 1967 and designed by famed Italian designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. Like its ancestor, the sedan flounces with its robust personality and sporty glamour. Reviving Maserati tradition of naming cars after winds, the Ghibli reflects its namesake, which is the collection of hot, fast and powerful winds that blow across the Sahara desert.

This elegant and sporty sedan has curves with slick cut lines that show off just the right amount of muscle. The distinctive Italian design takes a minimalist approach with immaculate lines exhibiting movement. The legendary Maserati radiator grille with concave lines gets its inspiration from the GranTurismo and the iconic A6 GCS Berlinetta.

The Ghibli shares most of its foundation with the 2014 Maserati Quattroporte including the double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear setup. The range also gets a standard limited-slip differential. Enhancing the sedan’s sporty feel and first-class comfort are the silky leather wraparound form seats. The opulent leather highlights the delicate stitching. Complementing the seating are soft lines on the dashboard embellished with the traditional Maserati clock with a blue face.

Powering the Maserati Ghibli is a three-liter twin turbo V6 engine, an engineering masterpiece that reduces fuel consumption and emissions. And yet, it yields impressive sporty performance. The base Ghibli gets 330 hp at 5,000 rpm that allows it to leap from 0 to 62 mph in 5.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 165 mph. The Ghibli S Q4 pumps out a peak 410 hp at 5,500 rpm and rushes from 0 to 62 mph in 4.8 fiery seconds and achieves a top speed of 175 mph.

Maserati has an all-new lightweight all-wheel-drive system custom-made for handling and efficiency available as an option. For maximum traction and agility in all weather conditions, the system uses just the rear wheels until it needs the front wheels for extra support. And when the driver needs all four wheels in action, it only takes 150 milliseconds to shift torque from rear to all four wheels.

Display: The 8.4-inch display of the user-friendly Maserati Touch Control in the middle of the dashboard surrounded by aluminum provides access to most of the information and entertainment system devices. Above the display is the traditional Maserati clock with blue face encircled in aluminum.

Seating: The seats’ wraparound form enhances the interior’s sporty feel while serving up first-class comfort. The upholstery’s soft leather has a natural grain with flawless stitching for a lavish look and feel. Audio system: In a partnership with the specialists at Bowers & Wilkins, the available new generation premium Hi-Fi system promises the consummate sound with 15 speakers distributed across the dashboard, doors and rear. The system has a 1,280-watt amplifier that sets new standards for in-car entertainment.

Upholstery: Three levels of customization is available and in a choice of three colors: Nero, Cuoio and Sabbia used on the front and rear seats as standards. These can be extended to the side areas above the dashboard, instrumental panel and door armrests for a two-tone combination of Nero and Cuoio.

For more luxury, an available third option adds upholstery to the entire interior including seats, dashboards and doors using finest quality leather produced by Poltrona Frau®. Here, the choices increase to five with the addition of Marrone and Rosso Trofeo.

Trim: The standard trim features a modern black finish. For a sportier character, polished Ebony or open pore Walnut, or carbon fiber is available.

The 2014 model Year marks the introduction of a brand-new product to the Mercedes-Benz family – the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class. This all-new model will be the new gateway to the Mercedes-Benz brand starting at $29,900. In addition, Mercedes-Benz will release an all-new generation of the brand’s flagship model, the S-Class. Early feedback from those who have seen the new S-Class have commented that it is revolutionary in that it redefines the automobile. Finally, the redesigned E-Class family launches in the 2014 model year. In January of 2013 the all-new CLA-Class made a sneak-peek debut for U.S. and international press at the Mercedes-Benz ‘New Years Reception’ in Detroit. Arriving in dealerships this fall, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz CLA-Class features a 4-door coupe design, aggressive styling, and a brand new engine mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission. – 18″ 5-spoke wheels standard on all C350 (sedan and coupe)

2014 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class
The 2014 model year marks the final year of production for the C216 CL-Class. The next generation CL (C217) will launch with in the 2015 model year.
– The Premium 2 Package is standard on the CL550 4MATIC and CL63 AMG® (includes rearview camera, active multi-contour front seats with massage function and Night View Assist PLUS)
– The code for the Driver Assistance Package has been changed to 997 (formerly 266).

2014 Porsche Cayman ahead of the curve in Dallas, Texas

Overview

Inside the 2014 Porsche Cayman, you’re always ahead of the curve. Instead of taking the direct path in a humdrum straight line, the Cayman follows the bold and adventurous code of the curve. The 2013 LS line-up includes the LS 460, LS 460L, LS 600hL hybrid, and the first-ever LS 460 F SPORT. LS 460 and LS 460L are available in RWD and AWD. The LS Hybrid is available with a full-time AWD system.

The all-new LS 460 F SPORT combines a more aggressive exterior with a unique sport interior featuring F SPORT seats with larger bolsters, a leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters and genuine aluminum trim. With a sport tuned air suspension that has been lowered 0.4 inches, a Torsen® limited slip rear differential (RWD model), Brembo six-piston caliper brakes, and 19” forged wheels with summer or all-season tires, the LS F SPORT promises to be the most engaging LS ever.

The entire 2013 LS lineup is refined with dynamic, fresh styling that reflects the bold new face of Lexus. The aggressive spindle grille gives the new LS a greater road presence and stronger brand identity while heralding a significant improvement in driving dynamics, responsiveness and handling.

Increased body rigidity enhances stability, and allows for a more comfortable ride. Pitch and bounce control has been enhanced by adopting new frequency dependent shock absorbers, resulting in an even flatter, road-hugging ride. Available safety enhancements include the industry’s most advanced Pre-Collision Safety (A-PCS) system with Collision Avoidance Assist. This system is designed to assist the driver in avoiding or mitigating collisions with vehicles and pedestrians under a wide range of city and highway speeds. At speeds lower than 24 miles per hour, this technology helps the LS to avoid accidents by automatically bringing the LS to a full stop.

A next-generation Remote Touch, with one-push confirmation, is standard on all models and enables smooth, intuitive control of many vehicle systems. The Remote Touch allows the user to operate the climate, audio, phone controls, navigation system and more. The screen menus are selected with a controller conveniently located within easy reach on the center console. Lexus Enform® with App Suite leverages the customers’ mobile phone technology to provide a new level of connectivity and information management. Users can conduct local searches through Bing™, utilize voice-enabled apps to make restaurant reservations through OpenTable®, get movie tickets via MovieTickets.com, tap into internet radio, including Pandora® or iHeartRadio, search business reviews on Yelp and check in on Facebook places. A one-year trial subscription is included for the App Suite.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert: When you’re backing out of a parking spot, the available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert notifies you of approaching vehicles that might be out of camera view.

Performance

2013 Lexus LS 460. The direct-injected 4.6-liter, 386-hp ULEV II V8 engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This produces low emissions and Lexus-renowned smooth and quiet ride. The rear-wheel-drive model gets 367 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100.

2013 Lexus LS F SPORT. The direct-injected 4.6-liter, 386-hp V8 engine pairs with an eight-speed sequential-shift automatic and Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT-i). It also includes paddle shifters and downshift rev-matching for more precise shifting. The F SPORT features Brembo Front Brakes clamped down by six-piston front calipers.

On rear-wheel drive models, the F SPORT’s torque-sensing limited-slip rear differential distributes power to the right and left wheels to help improve traction and stability in corners without interrupting power output. The rear-wheel-drive F SPORT gets 367 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100.

2013 Lexus LS 600h Hybrid. The 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engine is mated to hybrid technology to generate a total of 438 hp. The hybrid transmission is an Electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) with two-speed reduction and Snow mode. Fuel economy is 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined.

2013 Porsche Boxster Automotive Magazine Design of the Year

– The Porsche Boxster is now longer and lower than its predecessor, adopting the good old American styling mantra.

– The Wheelbase is up a couple of inches, which improves proportions of the whole by a great deal more than the 2.4 percent increase.

– The side sculpturing, that was so charming on the twenty-year-old concept, has returned.

– The Boxster is not the fastest Porsche, but it may well be the best. A policy of restraining the Boxster’s power keeps the 911 ahead in all-out performance, but there’s no confusion about which Porsche is the most rewarding to drive.
