Those looking for a luxury vehicle that is also backed with great performance and safety features should definitely be looking into 2013 Mercedes-Benz safety this time around. Though much of the focus is on the luxury experience, none of the models disappoint when it comes to performance or safety.

The 2013 Mercedes-Benz C-Class offers front side thorax airbags, a driver knee airbag, front side pelvic airbags, traction control, stability control, full length curtain airbags and anti-lock brakes as standard fare. In addition, the C-Class comes with the Mercedes-Benz mbrace2 emergency telematics that detects if the driver is acting drowsy or inattentive. The coupe model comes with rear side thorax airbags which are an option for the sedan. The Lane Tracking package also adds a lane departure and blind spot warning system.

A C350 Sport takes only 108 feet to come to a complete stop while the C250 Sport come within five feet of matching what is already an incredible halting distance. Testing gave the C-Class sedan four out of five stars for overall crash testing with five overall for side crashes. Also, it received the best “Good” rating for all standard crash tests.

In the case of the Mercedes-Benz GLK-Class, there are stability control, traction control, front side airbags, front pelvic airbags, active front head restraints, antilock brakes, a driver drowsiness monitor and driver knee airbag for standard fare. This line also gets the mbrace2 communications system for crash notification, a system to tell the driver when another driver has exceeded a boundary or preset speed, such as a teenager or a valet. This line also has the warning systems as options, and it rated the best possible of “Good” in all standard strength tests.

True safety comes with the 2013 Mercedes S-Class.  It’s equipped with  standard antilock brakes, side curtain airbags, active head restraints, stability and traction control, front side airbags, rear side airbags and the mbrace telematics. In addition to all of this is the PreSafe system can tighten the seatbelts and position the seats to fully protect the driver with the airbag if it senses an accident about to occur.

Depending on the trim, some S-Class owners can also get a number of optional features like a blind spot warning system and a lane departure system that comes with the PreSafe braking, infrared Night Vision Assist and automatic brake intervention. For the PreSafe braking, the system uses the radar system for the optional adaptive cruise control to detect when there will be a crash and automatically put on the brakes to try and minimize the impact.

In brake testing, the S400 trim took just 121 feet to come to a complete stop. The two AMG models stopped at an even better 111 feet while the S350 met the two halfway with its 116-foot result. The S550 and the S600 are similar to the S350 in this regard.

Though safety was obviously a key factor behind designing this year’s Mercedes-Benz models, there is still plenty of additional luxury and comfort to go around. For example, the compliant suspension easily cancels out the imperfections of the road while minimizing body roll. Passengers are also kept isolated with a quiet cabin akin to a library even when over old, rough pavement. At the same time, Mercedes-Benz cars bring a luxury feel to it without feeling too much in a bubble.

The Mercedes-Benz ML 350 BlueTEC is a luxury SUV with advanced diesel technology for the ultimate in environmentally friendly transportation. Automotive experts indicate the ML 350 BlueTEC is a noteworthy contender among hybrid/diesel offerings.

Mercedes-Benz is renowned for manufacturing diesel engine vehicles. The company first appeared commercially in 1926 but created cars as early as 1886. In 1936, Mercedes released their first diesel engine car. Diesel engines offer high power to displacement ratios and greater fuel economy. Customers received their first taste of Mercedes-Benz SUVs with G-Class models in 1979, and we’ve seen many great innovations in the Mercedes-Benz SUV line since that introduction.

One of the many great tidbits about the ML 350 BlueTEC models is it features clean diesel technology. In the past, diesel engines have not been known for being environmentally friendly. Mercedes-Benz BlueTEC technology utilizes multiple features to clean emissions before they are expelled through vehicle exhaust pipes. These features have the power not only to keep the air clean, but to change the diesel stigma, and show the world that the diesel engine is a wonderful alternative to gasoline engines. ML 350 BlueTEC engines feature the following multi-step components:

• Common rail direct (CRD) injection delivers consistent and precise fuel spray for more efficient combustion.

• Diesel particulate filters (DPFs) remove soot from used engine fuel.

• Selective catalytic reduction (SCR) converts remaining impurities into nitrogen gas and water.

The technologies work together with low sulfur diesel fuel to create an environmentally safer vehicle. According to Popular Mechanics, low sulfur diesel fuel is approximately 98.5 percent cleaner than past versions.

In performance, the ML 350 BlueTEC SUVs retain traditional Mercedes-Benz features. The company strives for clients to feel that they have not sacrificed comfort or power for the goal of being green. Reviewers at Motor Week Magazine feel designers successfully met their goal.

• A six-cylinder engine delivers 240 horsepower and accelerates from zero to 60 miles per hour (mph) in 7.1 seconds. Mercedes-Benz engineers report timing is comparable to traditional gas models.

On the outside, Car and Driver notes the most recent ML 350 BlueTEC sits slightly lower than previous models. Vehicles are also longer and wider. The updated vehicle body makes for a safer, aerodynamic ride, while providing the vehicle with a more aggressive and exciting look. Roof rails offer additional space for bulkier items. Chrome accents, 19-inch wheels and LED lights add to the clean exterior design.

While inside, manufacturers designed the ML 350 BlueTec for maximum comfort. MB-Tex seat covers do not stiffen, even in the coldest weather. The multifunction steering wheel allows drivers to control vehicle functions while keeping their eyes on the road. Separate passenger and driver climate controls feature dust and fume filters.

Entertainment features include the Cockpit and Management Data (COMAND) system that provides hands-free calling and navigation services. A dashboard screen plays CDs, DVDs and memory card files for passenger entertainment. Bluetooth compatibility facilitates wireless connections with a variety of mobile devices. For an additional fee, customers can include a vehicle “hot spot” for continuous Internet connectivity.

On the safety forefront, manufacturers at Mercedes-Benz included nine air bags in the ML 350 BlueTEC, including curtain units for protection from windshield impacts. Collision Prevention Assist triggers an alarm when another vehicle is in close proximity. Attention Assist activates an alert tone if drivers become tired or lose concentration during longer excursions. Customers who frequently tow trailers love the Trailer Stability Assist feature. The system automatically activates front brakes when sensors indicate instability in the rear.

An application called mbrace 2 offers 24-hour customer support with a combination of live assistance and cloud-based GPS programming.

2014 Mercedes-Benz CL-Class
The 2014 model year marks the final year of production for the C216 CL-Class. The next generation CL (C217) will launch with in the 2015 model year.

2014 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class
As the SL-Class was completely redesigned in MY13, there are limited changes for the second year of its lifecycle in MY14 including:
– Cardinal Red Metallic replaces Pearl Beige Metallic
– Addition of Polar White
– Analog dash top clock (code 246) is now standard on the SL550
– The code for the Driver Assistance Package has been changed to 997 (formerly 266)

2014 Mercedes-Benz SLK

2014 Mercedes-Benz AMG®
The E63 AMG® features a significant redesign, increased power, and the addition of standard 4MATIC® for all models. Beneath the new sheet metal, the M157 5.5-liter Biturbo receives a power increase to 550hp & 531 lb/ft of torque and delivers 0-60 mph in a staggering 3.6 seconds.
For those customers looking for even more power, the new E63 S-Model 4MATIC® (replacing Performance Package) is available in both sedan and wagon (offered as S Model only). The E63 AMG S-Model boasts 577hp & 590 lb/ft of torque, accelerating from 0 to 60mph in an estimated 3.5 seconds. This new staggering level of performance makes the E63 S-Model quicker from than every car currently offered by Audi, BMW and Lexus! Additionally, the MY14 CLS63 AMG now features 4MATIC as standard and the addition of the 577hp S Model 4MATIC® to the lineup.
The C63 for 2014 lineup now includes the Edition 507 coupe and sedan (replacing the P31 Development Package). The Edition 507 produces a mighty 507hp and 450 lb/ft of torque for 0-60 performance in just 4.1 seconds. Additionally, the Edition 507 debuts two new interior designs,

Mercedes-Benz mbrace® and Mercedes-Benz Apps
mbrace® remains standard equipment on all model lines. The new S-Class will now offer Mercedes-Benz Apps. The CL-Class is the last model line without Mercedes-Benz Apps, until next year. MSRP continues to include 6 months of mbrace, as well as 3-month trials for mbrace PLUS and Mercedes-Benz Apps. Over the course of the year the number of Apps will expand, including the addition of some popular streaming music/talk services. More specific details will be released in advance of their introductions.

ECO Start/Stop Function
Many 2014 model year vehicles will add the ECO Start/Stop functionality you already know from select 2012 model year and 2013 model year models, namely the CLA (all variants), E-Class (all variants including sedan, wagon, coupe, and convertible), CLS (all variants), and S-Class (all variants). The Mercedes-Benz ML250 BlueTEC and ML63 AMG® as well as the GL63 AMG® will also receive this feature.
