The Importance Of OEM Parts In Automotive Repair

Over the past few months, an important issue has come to light that concerns the safety of many Americans who have had their vehicles repaired in the last three years, utilizing non-oem replacement airbags. The following is an excerpt from a Fox News article with details about this concern, as well as an NHTSA video showing the potential dangers of these counterfeit airbags during testing.

“Only 0.1 percent of the U.S. vehicle fleet is believed to be affected, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in a statement. But industry officials briefed by the government said tens of thousands of car owners may be driving vehicles with counterfeit air bags. NHTSA testing has shown most of the counterfeit bags don’t inflate or fail to inflate properly. In at least one case, a counterfeit bag fired shards of metal shrapnel on impact, the agency said.

NHTSA is asking car owners to check a government website, www.Safercar.gov, for information on how to contact a call center established by auto manufacturers to learn if their vehicle model is among those for which counterfeit air bags are known to have been made.”

Plano I.S.D. Education Foundation and Park Place Lexus Join Forces to Support School System and Community

On November 14, 79 Plano Independent School District classrooms received a major shock when Park Place Lexus Grant Patrol teams showed up with pom-poms, noisemakers and, more importantly, grant checks.

For the seventh year running, the PISD Education Foundation has partnered with Park Place Lexus and several other sponsors to provide need-based grants for teachers who create unique, innovative programs aimed at helping their students and community. $100,000 was issued to 32 Plano ISD schools by way of 79 grants to teachers through the annual Grants to Educators program.

The Grants to Educators program assists teachers and schools in creating a better learning environment for students when tax funding falls short. Since its inception, the PISD Education Foundation has donated nearly $800,000 through the program. A panel of judges, appointed by the Education Foundation, considered each teacher’s application with a fine-toothed comb, funding 79 grants to 32 different schools. That help goes to 29,562 students and families in the Plano community reached by the grants.

Central Market hosts the Grants to Educators event each year. On this day, everyone involved with the Foundation, PISD, and the Grant Patrol assembled early in the morning at the Coit Road location for complimentary breakfast and lunch for all volunteers.

Plano ISD superintendant Richard Matkin led off the event by remarking on how appreciative the district was for the grant program and stressed its impact on the the schools. He noted that the program encourages teachers to think outside of the box and find ways to create a more conducive environment, not only for learning classroom material, but also for real-world knowledge and core values.

Teams rode along in seven brand new Lexus Grant Patrol vehicles, provided by Park Place Lexus to distribute checks to unsuspecting faculty members throughout the 100 square-mile area. Park Place has been a supporter of the Grants to Educators program for seven years running, providing vehicles and monetary donations every year.

Riding in the lead car was Park Place Marketing Director Rob Sumner, PISD Education Foundation Executive Director Carlos Sastoque, and Education Foundation Board Member Harvey Fishero.

All it takes is one look at the teachers’ reactions to understand what this event is all about: The sheer excitement and joy on many of the instructors’ faces, not to mention the jumping around and hugging, might make a grown man’s eyes water.

The kids ate up the surprise just as much as the teachers. Even the youngest screamed, clapped, and laughed along. The older kids who did understand the significance of the grants made it clear how grateful they were.

While cruising to Centennial Elementary School in our 2012 Lexus RX, Harvey Fishero said something that will not be soon forgotten: He commented on the amazing nature and character of teachers, pointing out that they acted as “parents, referees, and lawyers, while somehow still managing to teach on top of all of that.” Who better to receive help than the instructors who are trying to find better ways to mold our youth into productive, knowledgeable people?

It was easy to see that the teachers honored truly care about what they do. They care about their students and want to see them succeed, not just in the classroom, but in their community as well. The winning grant programs were based on ideals such as promoting family bonding, healthy lifestyles, helping those in need, community involvement, improving literacy, preparation for higher learning, and focus on the arts and sciences.

These teachers who were chosen to receive grant money are truly inspirational role models. Park Place Lexus is so glad to be fortunate enough to be a part of this program and show its generosity for the Education Foundation and its sponsors. Everyone involved in the Grants to Educators program deserves recognition and we hope to see more outstanding education and community-oriented programs like this in the future.

Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year: 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class

Against a field of 11 competitors for the coveted 2013 Motor Trend Sport/Utility of the Year® award, one clear winner stood above the rest, the 2013 Mercedes-Benz GL-Class. A one-year trial subscription is included for the App Suite.

Safety

LED Lamps: The new LS is the first Lexus to offer energy-efficient LEDs for all exterior lamps, including available headlamps, foglamps, rear combination lamps, and the puddle lamps under the side mirrors. They light up faster than conventional bulbs, making it easier for others to see your car when you hit the brakes.

Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD): This computer-controlled system adapts the amount of pressure to the brakes to help enhance control during braking.

Smart Stop Technology: Smart Stop Technology automatically reduces engine power when the brake pedal is firmly applied, even if the accelerator pedal is fully pressed.

Intuitive Park Assist: For help with parking tasks like parallel parking, this uses sensors to detect surrounding objects and alert the driver of a detect object’s location and proximity.

Vehicle Stability Control: Detects sideslip of the wheels during cornering, and helps to control it using engine power modulation and selective application of individual brakes. It works with anti-lock braking and traction control to help improve driver control under certain conditions.

Brake Assist: Brake Assist senses a panic-stop scenario by analyzing how quickly and forcefully the driver hits the brake pedal. It automatically applies increased braking boost until the driver releases pedal pressure.

Rear Cross-Traffic Alert: When you’re backing out of a parking spot, the available Rear Cross-Traffic Alert notifies you of approaching vehicles that might be out of camera view.

Performance

2013 Lexus LS 460. The direct-injected 4.6-liter, 386-hp ULEV II V8 engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This produces low emissions and Lexus-renowned smooth and quiet ride. The rear-wheel-drive model gets 367 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100.

2013 Lexus LS F SPORT. The direct-injected 4.6-liter, 386-hp V8 engine pairs with an eight-speed sequential-shift automatic and Electronically Controlled Transmission (ECT-i). It also includes paddle shifters and downshift rev-matching for more precise shifting. The F SPORT features Brembo Front Brakes clamped down by six-piston front calipers.

On rear-wheel drive models, the F SPORT’s torque-sensing limited-slip rear differential distributes power to the right and left wheels to help improve traction and stability in corners without interrupting power output. The rear-wheel-drive F SPORT gets 367 lb-ft of torque @ 4,100.

2013 Lexus LS 600h Hybrid. The 5.0-liter V8 gasoline engine is mated to hybrid technology to generate a total of 438 hp. The hybrid transmission is an Electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT) with two-speed reduction and Snow mode. Fuel economy is 19 mpg city, 23 mpg highway and 20 mpg combined.

2013 Porsche Cayenne Hybrid Now For Sale at Porsche Dallas

The 2013 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid is proof that Porsche continues to innovate and reflect its independent thinking in the engineering of every car and SUV. Its hybrid SUV takes performance and efficiency to the max.

Overview

First, Porsche built and introduced an SUV proving many skeptics wrong. Now it makes another surprising move with the 2013 Porsche Cayenne S Hybrid. This may sound like a game of chess. If you consider the road as the king, the hybrid SUV conquers it every time.

The Cayenne S Hybrid pairs a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged gasoline engine with an electrical motor powered by a 288-volt nickel metal-hydride (NiMh) battery pack turning the hybrid SUV into a fuel-efficient sporty performer. This sounds like a contradiction, yet the hybrid generates a total of 380 hp and maximum torque of 428 lb.-ft. through its 8-speed Tiptronic S transmission and permanent all-wheel drive system. This system thrusts the hybrid SUV from 0 to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds working up to a top track speed of 150 mph. (That’s not a typo.)

The new Cayenne S Hybrid can also operate in electric-only mode at speeds of up to 40 mph. The SUV gets 333 hp and gains an additional 47 hp from two electric motors with the AWD system and self-locking center differential. This allows you to get the kind of acceleration you’d expect from a V-8, but with a mileage of a V-6.

Featuring Auto Start/Stop technology, the Cayenne S Hybrid automatically turns off the engine when the SUV stops at traffic lights and the driver’s foot is on the brake. Although the engine isn’t running, audio and communication systems stay on and the standard climate control continues with the selected temperature. You won’t notice any changes other than a quieter car.

Porsche Traction Management (PTM) provides a standard torque split of 60 percent to the rear and 40 percent to the front. If one of the wheels is about to lose grip, the self-locking center differential transmits the torque to the axle offering the highest level of traction. The PTM also distributes torque to the rear wheels to boost steering precision and driving dynamics.
