Volvo S60

The new 2019 S60 (and all new ’60 models) are getting the upgrades from their 90 counterparts from amenities and styling. The S60 is also the first model built in the United States plan in South Carolina, sporting a slicker look and powerful engine. Car and Driver commented on the sedan as a “formidable competitor in a way that it wasn’t before.” It still represents classic Volvo design language perfectly with emphasis on intuitive technology, safety innovations, sustainable power updates, and now a “bold attitude” to match.

Volvo Cars Breaks Global Sales Records in 2018

With its award dominating lineup, it’s no wonder that Volvo Cars reported a Global increase in sales for 2018.  The Swedish manufacturer grew 12.4% in global sales compared to its prior year, selling over 640,000 units.

SUV popularity in the U.S. vehicle market is just one reason behind Volvo’s sales success. In an overview of 2019 SUVs to watch out for, Business Insider shares that SUVs still account for 46% of all auto sales.

The new sales record in 2018 underscores, according to Volvo Cars,  the strong demand for their renewed portfolio, leading with the XC60, and followed by the XC40 and XC90.  In the final month of 2018,  Volvo Cars increased SUV sales 2% from the previous year.

Here in the U.S., Volvo Dealers earned a 20% increase in sales, again, led by the XC60. Among major regions, the United States saw the most year over year growth due to Volvo’s continuous competitive design, safety, and performance improvements. Performance capabilities are key as consumers are switching from sportscars to SUVs.

2019 is expected to continue with a high contribution of sales stemming from the United States due, in part, to the made-in-the-us  S60  cars that have already started reaching dealerships.

Overall, the XC60, which received various awards in 2018,  was the top selling model with 180,000+ units sold. The next in-line model, the full-size XC90, received sales half of its midsize counterpart (94,182 units).

Volvo’s Vision for the Future of Travel: the 360c Concept

Imagine a fully mobile work space that not only made your commute hassle free, but let you actually work or relax while going from point A to point B. Imagine if this fully functional work space could eventually be offered by employers or even on subscription basis.

Sounds too good to be true, right? Well not for Volvo Cars who’s mission makes the automotive experience easier and more enjoyable for drivers and passengers alike. Much of this can attributed to their overall design approach, putting the human before any technology advances or upgrades- ensuring it’s executed in a way to positively influence an experience, rather than merely stay up-to-date for the sake of well, staying up-to-date.

Volvo Cars released the 360c Autonomous Concept earlier this fall as a tangible view of the company’s vision for the future of travel. The concept itself reflects the ever-changing structure and design by which people live, something any retailer or automotive manufacturer alike can struggle to achieve.  By transforming unproductive or boring commutes into useful and enjoyable minutes (or hours) on the road, then yes, Volvo Cars has the ability to possibly transform the well-being of their riders with four scenarios built in: sleeping space, mobile office, living room, and entertainment space.

“The 360c explores what becomes possible when we remove the human driver, using new freedoms in design and recapturing time – it’s a glimpse at how autonomous drive technology will change the world as we know it. The possibilities are mind-boggling,” said Mårten Levenstam, senior vice president of corporate strategy at Volvo Cars.

Fully autonomous and electric travel offers a range of advanced safety and environmental benefits, such as less pollution, less traffic congestion, and related health and lifestyle advantages for those living in cities. It also opens up possibilities for more residential freedom, reduced pressure on real estate pricing and more affordable home ownership.

“People becoming less reliant on proximity to cities is just one example of the impact of removing the burden of unproductive travel time,” said Mårten Levenstam. “The 360c driving office makes it viable for people to live at greater distances from crowded cities and use their time both in a more pleasant and more effective way.”

The 360c is based on a fully autonomous, electric car without a human driver. It reimagines how people travel, how they engage with friends, family and contacts, and how they can recapture time while travelling.

This is just the start, but Volvo Cars President comments this design concept is just the conversation starter as more ideas and answers make their way to the Volvo team of engineers and designers.

“It will have a profound impact on how people travel, how we design our cities and how we use infrastructure. But we are just one of many stakeholders, so we expect and invite a broad discussion as society learns how to make the most of this revolutionary technology.” – Marten Levenstam

Volvo Cars Ends The Year With Four More Awards

Awards and Volvo Cars seem to have become synonymous over the past two years, and the luxury manufacturer is ending the year on another- well four- high notes.

2019 Consumer Guide Automotive Best Buys and World Car of the Year

The Volvo XC40 small luxury SUV and XC90 midsize SUV are 2019 Consumer Guide® Automotive Best Buys, while the XC40 was also named Supreme Winner of the 2018 Women’s World Car of the Year competition. It is the third time in four years the XC90 has been named a Consumer Guide Best Buy.

Interior Design Best Of the Year

The 360c autonomous concept won the Interior Design Best of the Year award for the Automotive Innovation category. Interior Design is the global, industry-leading design publication, website and events company serving the interior design, architectural and facility management audiences. And with Volvo’s commitment to Scandinavian and Human Centric Design, their design philosophy continues to exceed luxury expectations.

“Since we began our product refresh in 2015 experts around the world have recognized that new Volvos are exceptional,” said Anders Gustafsson, Senior Vice President Americas and President and CEO Volvo Car USA. “What they are saying is that consumers looking for cars and SUVs with the best design, technology, safety and luxury should consider Volvo, and we agree.”

“The XC40 offers surprisingly high levels of luxury, style, and all around refinement in a petite, modern, urban-friendly package,” said Tom Appel, publisher, Consumer Guide® Automotive. “The XC90 earned Consumer Guide® Best Buy recognition for its sumptuously trimmed cabin; better-than-class-average fuel economy from its four-cylinder engines; and loads of innovative and unconventional features that set it apart from the competition.”

Volvo XC90 T8 R-design

Nicole Wakelin, a Women’s World Car of the Year judge based in the U.S., said of the XC40, “The XC40 combines the versatility of a crossover with the understated elegance that is the hallmark of Volvo. The drive is engaging with crisp handling and a smooth ride that will have driver and passengers alike seeking the long way home.”

Cindy Allen, Editor in Chief of Interior Design said, “At Interior Design we seek out the most cutting edge projects and products—whether luxury condo, carpet, or car. And it’s the elite of this elite that take home our Best of Year Awards, a status that Volvo continues to exemplify. We couldn’t be more thrilled to have one of the world’s most iconic brands participate—and win—in our innovation category with the 360c, and look forward to seeing what they enter next year.”

More On the Winners

The Volvo XC40 is the first ever Volvo model to win the prestigious European Car of the Year award. Together with the larger XC60 and XC90, it completes Volvo’s global line-up of premium SUVs. The XC40 is the first car based on the new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

The XC90 is Volvo’s midsize, seven-seat SUV and the company’s flagship. Named 2016 Motor Trend SUV of the Year and 2016 North American Utility of the Year, it was the first car to be launched on the Scalable Product Architecture (SPA), Volvo’s advanced modular product platform that underpins all Volvo cars in the 90 and 60 Series. Pricing for 2019 starts at $47,700.

The Volvo XC40 Earns Two “Bests” from Kelley Blue Book

Since its introduction, the Volvo XC40 has made quite the impact on the compact SUV market-including exceeding sales expectations originally set by Volvo Cars and in April, dubbed Volvo’s most successful product launch in the UK.

Now the 2019 Volvo XC40  has earned two more accolades from Kelly Blue Book: Best New Model and Best Subcompact Luxury SUV for 2019. Starting at $34,000, the XC40 offers plenty of passenger and cargo space within a small footprint.  It’s the perfect combination of modern aesthetics, intuitive design and technology, and safety from all angles.

“We are extremely proud to win two more awards for XC40, especially these,” said Anders Gustafsson, President and CEO, Volvo Car USA. “The people at Kelley Blue Book really know what they’re talking about. By bringing design, technology, and safety features from our larger award-winning SUVs Volvo can offer luxury subcompact buyers a great value in a great package.”

In Kelly Blue Book’s Review, they specifically call out the modern, two-tone paint scheme and the cutting edge infotainment system on top of its base safety features as some of the reasons the XC40 stands out in the subcompact SUV crowd.

“The Volvo XC40 is an all-new vehicle, and it has wasted no time shaking up not just the Swedish automaker’s lineup, but also the burgeoning segment of subcompact luxury SUVs. In shape, style and attitude, the all-new 2019 XC40 goes its own way,” said Karl Brauer, executive publisher for Kelley Blue Book.

There is so much more to the ‘why’ behind the XC40’s successes since its introduction to the public, but instead of reading about it- why don’t you experience it for yourself? Check out ParkPlace.com to see our current and available inventory and give our team a call, they’d be happy to help you begin your journey to human-centric, Scandinavian luxury.

New XC40 Named 2018 Compact Luxury SUV of Texas

Volvo’s new XC40 has been named Compact Luxury SUV of Texas by the Texas Auto Writers Association (TAWA) at its annual Truck Rodeo. The organization also presented the XC40 with the award for Best Connectivity.

The XC40’s wins in Dripping Springs build on Volvo Cars’ previous success at the TAWA Truck Rodeo, with Best SUV honors for the XC90 and XC60 in 2016 and 2017, respectively. Volvo Cars’ legacy at the rodeo dates back to 2002, when the first-generation XC90 was the first-ever SUV to take home the coveted Truck of Texas Award.

“Volvo Cars has a strong history with TAWA, and we are proud to receive this recognition for our newest crossover,” said Anders Gustafsson, Senior Vice President Americas and President & CEO, Volvo Car USA. “The XC40 has been a great success for us, critically and commercially, contributing to our strong growth in the U.S. and around the world.”

In September, Volvo Car USA reported 29.8 percent year-to-date sales growth versus 2017. The first car built on Volvo Cars’ new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), the XC40 includes a range of ground-breaking technologies wrapped in a fresh, creative and distinctive package. Stay up-to-date on the XC40’s availability with our inventory on ParkPlace.com.

The 2018 Texas Truck Rodeo convened a total of 57 vehicles spanning SUVs, crossovers and commercial vehicles. Following two days of evaluation, 69 TAWA members cast their ballots to determine the event’s winners, judging vehicles against interior and exterior styling, performance, value and personal appeal.

Park Place Celebrates 21 Years at the Cattle Baron’s Ball with New Vehicle Donated to Raffle

Park Place Dealerships and the Cattle Baron’s Ball have a now 21-year relationship that has resulted in yet another successful event at Gilley’s Dallas, all for the pursuit of a cure for cancer.  The Cattle Baron’s Ball is one of the largest one night fundraisers, and Park Place is proud to provide support through what we know best- and that is luxury cars.

For our 21st year, Park Place donated the choice of a brand new 2018 Volvo XC40, Mercedes-Benz GLC 300, Porsche Macan, or Range Rover Velar, to the winner of the raffle.

As a core tenant of Park Place’s mission, giving back and community involvement is never overlooked but rather, constantly adapting and changing so that we can make a greater impact year after year.  As leaders in the automotive industry, Park Place has been honored with the opportunity to give to the Cattle Baron’s Ball to benefit the American Cancer society, leaders in cancer research, for 21 years now.

Since 1974, Cattle Baron’s Ball has raised over $77 million for cancer research- which they cite happens mostly here in DFW. True to “Everything’s Bigger in Texas” mantra, the Cattle Baron’s Ball has proven year after year, that they in partnership with the community, are the world’s largest sing-night fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

Cattle Baron’s has provided more than 30,000 services to cancer patients in North Texas, rides to and from treatments, and wigs free of charge. The American Cancer Society is the beneficiary of the event whose mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer.

The 2nd Annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase Shone Brightly Even in the Rain

Park Place Dealerships donates $55k Sprinter
to Salesmanship Club’s Momentous Institute

Rain or shine. Many outdoor events casually use the term, but few shine in the midst of challenges like the 2nd annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase did on October 13th at the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

“It was an exciting day in a lot of ways,” said Ken Schnitzer, Park Place Dealerships founder and chairman. “The rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of guests and we were able to execute the Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase for the nearly 3,000 people who attended. Many of the private collectors brought their rare and pristine cars out to display them in the Collector’s Concours. The Porsche Club – Maverick Region came together to create an amazing Heritage Display to celebrate Porsche’s 70th anniversary. And we were able to support a wonderful charitable partner in a big way.”

The event benefitted the Momentous Institute, owned and operated by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas since 1920. Each year, the organization serves more than 6,000 children and family members through its nationally acclaimed Momentous School and innovative Therapeutic Services. Schnitzer presented Patton Chapman, Salesmanship Club president, with the keys to a $55,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van to help the organization with its transportation needs for the kids.

Throughout the day, guests saw more than $100 million worth of rare and unique vehicles from manufacturers, collectors and car clubs, including the first public display of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the iconic marque’s first ever SUV. Guests also enjoyed live entertainment, incredible food and beverages, as well as a Highland Park Village fashion show produced by Jan Strimple.

Parents even watched their kids play in the rain, driving miniature electric versions of Porsche, McLaren, Volvo, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus vehicles on the pavestone path. Guests also had the opportunity to meet 16-year-old racecar driver Kinzie “Kiki” Wilson. Featured in her red, racing shirt on the right of her Corvette, the Mansfield Legacy High School Junior is also the Varsity Cheer Captain while maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

Dallas’ Mad Hatter Shane Walker helped judge the Haute Hat Contest. The Lady’s Haute Hat winner was Anna Neiman (below) with a stylish Rolls-Royce-inspired hat that included working lights.

As the day drew to a close, the top three award winners from the Collector’s Concours were presented with the “Spirit of Park Place,” a hand-crafted sculpture by Dallas artist Brad Oldham.

  • Best of Show went to Randy Johnson for his 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB 6C.

Safety First with National Child Passenger Safety Week

For parents, nothing comes before their child’s safety. Yet according to the Center for Disease Control, 59 percent of car seats are used incorrectly, limiting their ability to effectively protect.  It’s National Child Passenger Safety Week, and Park Place Volvo Cars is devoted to upholding our manufacturer’s vision for safety. Our team couldn’t be more proud to sell vehicles we know are some of the safest in the world, providing our clients with that extra ease of mind that they and their child passengers are safe on their journeys

Of particular note, the Volvo XC60 (one of our most popular family luxury compact SUVs) is one of the most awarded vehicles in Volvo’s history, including the prestigious the overall safest car in Euro NCAP 2017 Best in Class safety awards and the ‘World Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Luxury Compact SUV’ by Cars.com.

The awards speak volumes that with every new model that is released and all improvements or updates made to the new model years that Volvo Cars is well on their way to meeting their Vision 20/20: Our vision is that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), every 33 seconds, one child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash and many times deaths and injuries can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters, and seat belts. The effects of an improperly installed car seat are all too real, which is why you’ll typically find that if a dealership or service does not have a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, they will forgo reinstalling car seats and recommend a certified tech to do so after a service.

This Saturday ends National Child Passenger Safety week with Car Seat Check Saturday, where Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, will at the bare minimum check your car seat for free. The Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician will educate parents about choosing the right car seat for a child, installing a car seat correctly in their vehicle, and using the car seat acceptably every time. They can also discuss the importance of registering the car seat with its manufacturer, and what to expect if the seat is subject to a safety recall.

Park Place Volvo works closely with many locations who have a Certified Technician available in the Dallas area and highly encourage that you make an appointment or show up to a location nearest you to have your car seats. checked.  For a list of locations to get your car seat checked Saturday (or any time) visit http://cert.safekids.org/get-car-seat-checked

“Car seats matter and having the right car seat installed and used correctly is critical, ” says Donny Lambrecht, general manager of Park Place Volvo.  In passenger cars, car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers. Improving child safety in Volvo vehicles has long been a guiding principle with the manufacturer. Did you know that Volvo Cars played a key role in the development of rearward-facing child seats and introduced the world’s first booster cushion in 1978? Today, the company continues to innovate using technology and expertise to build the safest cars.

The New S60 Sedan: The First Volvo Made In the USA

Volvo Cars has entered the United States manufacturing space, inaugurating their South Carolina Plant during June 2018, with the new S60 being named the first Volvo vehicle to be manufactured here. It’s a manifestation of the luxury manufacturer’s commitment to the United States, which is an integral market for both the company and its new S60 Sedan.

“The new S60 is one of the most exciting Volvo cars we’ve ever made,” said Håkan Samuelsson, president and chief executive of Volvo Cars. “It is a true driver’s car that gives us a strong position in the US and China sedan markets, creating more growth opportunities for Volvo Cars.”

The new S60 is the first Volvo car to be sold without a diesel engine, signaling the company’s industry-leading commitment to electrification and a long-term future beyond the traditional combustion engine. In 2017, Volvo Cars was the first global car maker to announce its strategy that from 2019 all-new models will be electrified.

The award-winning turbocharged and supercharged T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid will be available in the new S60, delivering 313 horsepower with a rear electric motor adding 87 horsepower for a combined power output of 400 horsepower.  The T5 FWD and T6 AWD will also be available. The T5 FWD, T6 AWD, and T8 Twin Engine Plug-In Hybrid will carry an MSRP of $35,800, $40,300 and $54,400 respectively.

The new S60 is available via traditional purchase and lease, as well as via Care by Volvo. The new sedan sports Volvo Cars’ own Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform, safety technology, and infotainment system with the new V60 premium mid-size wagon, launched earlier this year, as well as the top-of-the-line 90 Series cars and award-winning XC60, all of which have achieved industry-leading safety ratings. This makes the new S60 one of the safest cars on the road- a feature not too surprising to see from one of the overall safest luxury car brands in the world.

Technology To Make Your Ride More Enjoyable

The City Safety with Autobrake technology assists the driver in avoiding potential collisions, and is the only system on the market to recognize pedestrians, cyclists and large animals. In a world first for the mid-size sedan segment, City Safety now also engages auto braking to mitigate oncoming collisions.

The optional Pilot Assist system – which supports the driver with steering, acceleration and braking on well-marked roads up to 80 mph – has been upgraded with improved cornering performance. The S60 also includes Run-off Road Mitigation, Oncoming Lane Mitigation and other steering assistance systems. The optional Cross Traffic Alert with autobrake further enhances safety for people inside and outside the car.

Volvo Cars’ Sensus Connect infotainment system is fully compatible with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 4G standard, and keeps drivers connected at all times. The intuitive control is a tablet-style touch screen interface that combines car functions, navigation, connected services and in-car entertainment apps.

Polestar Engineered

The new S60 will also be offered with a Polestar Engineered trim level – developed by Volvo Cars’ electric performance arm, Polestar. Polestar Engineered is only available on the T8 Twin Engine plug-in hybrid and is a complete offer with upgrades to the exterior and interior design, along with the car’s wheels, brakes, suspension and engine control unit, boosting the S60 T8 combined output to 415hp.
