Unveiled At Goodwood: 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake

If you aren’t familiar with the term “Shooting Brake”, get ready for a lesson in vehicle styling from a couple of centuries back. Shooting-Brake is a term, originally adapted from the name of a piece of farm equipment used with horses, to describe estate vehicles that were designed to transport shooting parties, hence the first part of the name, to and from their hunting expeditions. Bringing back this history of luxury and excitement, Mercedes-Benz officially unveiled the new Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Most features from the current CLS line remain, however the 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake utilizes a stretched platform with a longer wheelbase and additional cargo room. The AMG model will be equipped with a twin-turbo 5.5L V8 engine, producing 525 horsepower, a top speed of 155 mph, and a 0-62 mph time of 4.4 seconds.

Plans for U.S. sales have not been announced, but this is a beautiful car to check out nonetheless!

Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II: Updates to an Icon

Rolls-Royce Phantom Series IIAs a vision of luxury, beauty, success, and achievement, Rolls-Royce became an icon around the world through their brilliant automotive masterpieces. As one would expect, the latest Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II is no exception. Exhaustive efforts have been made to listen to the desires of their discerning clientele, and bring what dreams are made of into reality. All of the elements that made the world fall in love with this vehicle are still present in the Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II, with their focus on raising the monumental bar already set, rather than re-inventing what many would argue was already perfect.

Production began on the Phantom Series II in June; however, you can see that the updates in store have been long in planning. As you approach, you notice visual updates to the grille and newly designed bumpers, polished steel and chrome finishers, new options in wheels and finishes, and as a hint of the technological advances to be seen on the interior, a cutting-edge adaptive LED headlamp system which changes automatically in response to cornering and driving conditions.

Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II Control CentreContinuing the technological upgrades, inside the new Rolls-Royce Phantom Series II, you will find further proof that this isn’t just a car, but an extension of its owner. A new, larger, 8.8 inch control centre display and updated audio control panel, smart phone interface capability through standard USB and Aux-in connections, and a 6 disk multimedia changer along with USB connectivity for direct media storage on the system’s hard disk further improve the connectivity between driver and car. Navigating these new systems will feel like second nature with a new rotary controller allowing the driver to easily utilize these functions with one hand and minimal effort. Also standard on all new models in the Phantom family; two front-side cameras, a rear view camera, and 2 top view cameras provide an all-encompassing vantage point with reverse path prediction and obstacle detection through the new control centre display.

Powertrain improvements in the new Rolls-Royce are just as impressive, once again melding luxury and performance seamlessly. A new eight speed gearbox mated to a new rear differential provides improvements in fuel consumption and lower CO2 emissions while providing enhanced drive dynamics and maintaining the serene driving experience that is a Rolls-Royce signature. As a welcome addition to those seeking even more performance in ride and handling, a dynamic package is now available in the Phantom to provide sport suspension and transmission tuning, further enhancing the capabilities of this brilliant machine.

This artistic expression of engineering mastery will surely be the epitome of automotive aspiration, and as an added treat, you won’t have to wait long to see it with your own eyes. Launch events are being scheduled for later this year, and we encourage you to check back often as we announce the coming events to experience this masterpiece first hand with Park Place in Dallas.

Park Place Dealerships Adds Infiniti Brand To Dealership Group

Nevada’s Business Friendly State Major Factor in Purchase

DALLAS (July 2, 2012) – Park Place Dealerships, a luxury automobile group based in Dallas, announced today it has acquired Towbin Infiniti of Las Vegas for an undisclosed price. The dealership, located at 5605 West Sahara Avenue in Las Vegas, has been renamed Park Place Infiniti (parkplaceinfiniti.com).

“Nevada is a ‘business-friendly’ state which is important to our company when we consider expansion opportunities,” said Ken Schnitzer, founder and Chairman of Park Place Dealerships. “The Infiniti brand is a terrific brand and has tremendous long-term potential. Infiniti recently launched two new 2013 models – the 3-row/7-passenger Infiniti JX luxury crossover and the IPL G Convertible. In May, The Robb Report placed the Infiniti JX on its “Best of the Best” list of sport utility vehicles for 2012.”

Situated on six acres, Park Place Infiniti includes a 40,000-square-foot facility with a six-vehicle new car showroom, 26 service bays, a make-ready and detail area, and a six-vehicle pre-owned showroom. Renovations to the facilities will begin soon.

The company has named Stephen James General Manager of Park Place Infiniti. James transferred from Park Place Jaguar in Plano, Texas and was also a part of the Park Place Lexus team that was awarded the coveted Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the highest recognition a business can receive from the President of the United States.

“Stephen is a great asset to Park Place and will extend the culture and community of our company to residents of Las Vegas,” said Schnitzer. “We are excited to bring the Park Place brand to Nevada and look forward to being a part of the landscape for many years to come.”

On June 1, Infiniti reported U.S. sales of 10,592 units for the month of May, an increase of 65.8 percent versus 6,389 units a year earlier. Infiniti sales have increased 7.2 percent to 43,941 vehicles for the first five months of 2012.

“With a sales increase of more than 65 percent, May was a fantastic month for Infiniti, our best since 2007,” said Ben Poore, vice president, Infiniti Americas. “Our retailers reported strong traffic in their showrooms, not only for the all-new Infiniti JX, which has successfully fulfilled customers’ desires for a unique, new take on a luxury crossover, but for our Infiniti G and M lines as well.”

Total Car Score, a leading automotive ranking and comparison website, recently recognized Infiniti as the number one scoring brand on its listing of the “Top 10 Best Car Brands for 2012.” The study, which focuses on the strength of a brand’s overall product range, is based on numerical ratings for 2012 model year vehicles by independent automotive media and reviewers.

Infiniti offers a full-line of luxury performance automobiles, including the G Coupe, Sedan and Convertible, Infiniti M sedan, EX and FX crossovers, the QX full-size SUV and the all-new JX luxury crossover.

2013 Porsche Boxster Unveiling Event at the Dallas Arboretum

Park Place Porsche unveiled the new 2013 Porsche Boxster at the Dallas Arboretum and announced a $5,000 donation was made to The Family Place to help victims of domestic violence. The third-generation of the highly regarded Porsche sports car has arrived in the Dallas showroom and is now on sale.

Never before in the history of the Porsche Boxster has a change of generation been so comprehensive. The new Boxster weighs up to 77 pounds less than the previous generation while riding on a longer wheelbase and a wider track. Larger wheels, a restyled interior reminiscent of the Carrera GT supercar and a redesigned, fully electric top that now opens and closes in nine seconds help make the hi-performance roadster even more livable for everyday use.

“This is the classic mid-engine Porsche pairing,” said Patrick Huston, general manager of Park Place Porsche. “The new Boxster and Boxster S have been thoroughly updated with aggressive styling and more powerful engines, while being more comfortable and fuel efficient. With optional features like Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) and the Sport Chrono Package, these perfectly balanced mid-engined roadsters, now in their third-generation, are an absolute blast to drive.”

Both the Boxster and the Boxster S are powered by flat-six engines with direct fuel injection and a highly efficient electrical system recuperation feature, thermal management and a Stop/Start function. The base model’s new power unit delivers 265 hp from an engine displacing 2.7 liters and provides ten hp more than its larger displacement predecessor. The 315 hp 3.4-liter engine of the Boxster S now delivers five more hp than before.

Both models are equipped with a manual six-speed gearbox as standard with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) transmission optional and both versions achieve their best fuel consumption and acceleration with the PDK. With no power flow interruption during gear changes, the Boxster sprints from zero to 60 mph in as little 5.2 seconds, the Boxster S in as little as 4.5 seconds. The EPA rates the Boxster at 32 mpg highway, and the Boxster S at 30 mpg with the PDK.

The base list price will be $49,500 for the Boxster and $60,900 for the Boxster S, not including a $950 destination charge.

Goodwood – Lotus Headlines the Loudest Summer Festival of Them All

Lotus racing at Goodwood

The peace and tranquillity of Lord March’s estate will be shattered from 29th June to 1st July as Lotus takes centre stage at the 2012 Goodwood Festival of Speed, which celebrates Lotus innovation, engineering, heritage and style.

Lotus racing at Goodwood

Forty Lotus racing cars will fire up the hallowed hill climb this year, spanning seven decades and showcasing Lotus’ incredible racing pedigree; from championship winning F1 cars to famous GT and rally racers, some driven by Lotus racing greats including Emerson Fittipaldi, John Surtees, Jacky Ickx, Jackie Oliver, Russell Brookes, Doc Bundy and Martin Donnelly.

And to bring the track action bang up to date, Lotus will be blasting its most recent jaw-dropping models up the hill, like the Exige R-GT rally car, making its UK debut, the Lotus T125 and the car that has motoring magazines all over the world hailing Lotus’ wizardry – the tyre-squealing Exige S.

We’ll also fire up our brand new Grand-Am car, the Evora GX racer. Like the GTC, it’s the Evora on a diet, fitted with more rubber and flared wheel arches. Weighing in at just 1,150kg and mated to a 440bhp V6, it’s been fettled to meet the American series’ spec with some aero changes to the front, a stock Grand-Am rear wing, and the removal of ABS and traction control, putting driver skill paramount and the promise of some spectacular tyre smoking.

Away from the track, Bonhams is holding an auction of Lotus road and racing cars – 24 models stretching all the Lotus eras; from a Le Mans veteran Team Lotus Type 11 and ex-Formula One Type 18 to a selection of mint road cars and three unique concept cars.

These and other two-seat toys of the 21st century might not exist were it not for the little Lotus Elan, which blows the candles out on its 50th birthday cake this year. Surprising, considering how gorgeous it still looks! Lotus pays homage to this revolutionary sports car on its 1000 m2 stand taking pride of place along side the current Lotus line up.

Also on the Lotus stand, Lotus Engineering will show a number of technologies that can improve both performance and efficiency for cars of the future. Leading the Lotus Engineering display is the Lotus Evora 414E Range Extender Electric Vehicle, complete with HALOsonic active noise control and a virtual seven speed gearbox. This technology demonstrator produces 414 PS and an incredible 1000 Nm of torque from the two electric motors that drive the rear wheels. These amazing figures help slingshot the Evora 414E to 60 mph in around four seconds. Back at the Lotus Headquarters in Norfolk, an Evora 414E is now undergoing test work and the development team is delighted with the progress that has been made already.

Lotus Engineering will also show its SABRE engine which demonstrates “powertrain downsizing” where the torque and power of this 1.5 litre, 3 cylinder engine is the equivalent to a 2.2, 4 cylinder but with the fuel efficiency and economy benefits of the smaller engine.

Being Goodwood’s featured marque, though, means more than a car club turnout and an opportunity to show new models. The spirit of Lotus will be felt all around and none more so than when gazing up at this year’s sculptural centrepiece. Created by Lotus, Lord March and acclaimed artist and designer Gerry Judah, it represents Lotus’ infinite commitment to sporting success and driving pleasure. We don’t want to give too much away except to say – it’s massive!

Lotus and Goodwood’s shared philosophies of speed, emotion, competition and having a roaringly good time, are all here. Come and join us in toasting the past, present and future of the best of British!

Aslam Farikullah, Chief Operational Officer Group Lotus, “Goodwood has become the most important car culture event in the world, and the similarities between what the Festival of Speed is trying to do and what we would like to communicate are clear. It’s about showcasing the past, present and future of sports cars and motor racing. We’ll be in Goodwood to show what we’ve done over the last year, as well as the last 60 years. Heritage is absolutely everything. If you don’t understand your past, you can’t realise your future. We remember not only the good times, but the bad times too, it’s what makes us stronger and gives us depth of character. Lotus has been pioneering both on the road and on the track for six decades. At Goodwood we’ll be able to showcase everything the company has done, and we will use this as a foundation for the future.”

Clive Chapman, son of Lotus founder Colin Chapman and Managing Director of Classic Team Lotus, “There will be a mixture of old and new cars at Goodwood, and this is what Lotus is about; looking to the future, but remembering the past. Lotus has such a rich history, there’s much to be proud of, and this year marks the 60th anniversary of Lotus Engineering. We like to invite our customers to drive as a thank you for their support, but then, normally, there are one or two famous drivers that Goodwood has invited. Lord March likes to see the cars reunited with their original drivers. It’s therefore likely we’ll see Emerson Fittipaldi and Jacky Ickx reacquainting themselves with the beautiful black-and-gold 72E. As for most of the historic owners, they’re living out their boyhood dreams by working the pedals of these heroic cars and getting to rub shoulders with Lotus legends.”

Gerry Judah, artist and designer, “This year’s sculpture is a lightweight steel monocoque construction. I think its form shows the Lotus psychology and culture. I’ve always admired Lotus since I was a boy. They’re such British cars, with that ideology of clever, forward thinking science and engineering. That was something I knew I needed to embrace. It’s almost unconscious how I approach sculpture. I don’t do brands. None of the sculptures I’ve done for Goodwood have spoken about the brand, you can get an advertising agency to do that. I do something more intuitive. It is, dare I say it, a spiritual journey in design.”

The Earl of March, Goodwood owner and organizer, “Lotus is without a doubt one of the greatest, most evocative motoring and motor racing brands Britain has produced and we are very happy that the company will be celebrated this year. For the first time, we will gather all the cars from the featured marque and they will be paraded in front of the house, around the Lotus sculpture, and then each will be raced up the hill. Lotus’ beautiful, innovative, joyful cars and some of the heroes that made them famous will be out in force, not sitting silently but driven hard for the purpose they were born. It’s going to be a wonderful automotive celebration.”
