Garland Couple’s Leading Role Takes Them to Hollywood

Klembara’s “My Place” Story Earns Couple Trip to Academy Awards

In today’s rough-and-tumble world, it’s refreshing to meet a couple like Teresa and Gary Klembara of Garland.

Married for 36 years, the magic between them remains palpable – twinkling eyes, gentle touches and warm banter speak to an enduring love story that rivals anything in the movies.

It’s easy to imagine the sparks flying when they first met at J.C. Penney – he as a senior manager and she a manager trainee. They dated off and on for seven years before they, as Teresa says, “came to our senses and got married.”

Gary transitioned into a successful career as an international IT businessman and, after opting to leave her own successful retail management career at JCP, Teresa joined him on the road whenever she could. She also kept busy with sports and civic activities – “Keeping the home fires burning,” she says brightly.

Teresa’s bubbly laughter comes easily and often, especially when her affectionate rescue pooch, Brody, jumps into her lap for yet another smooch and snuggle. Gary shakes his head indulgently and pats Brody. This is, indeed, one lovingly pampered pup who, not surprisingly, embodies the couple’s lifelong commitment to each other and others.

They have a long-standing date for dinner and a movie with friends. “There are several couples we’ve been friends with for the past 30 years,” explains Gary. “When we’re in town we get together for dinner and a movie every Saturday.”

When asked about their favorite movie to win an Oscar this year, Gary favored “Bohemian Rhapsody” while Teresa leaned towards “A Star is Born.”

It’s not all butterflies and unicorns

Lest they sound entirely too Pollyanna-perfect, however, just watch Teresa at a Dallas Stars hockey game. (They’ve been season ticket holders for 24 years). Without going into too much detail, let’s just say that her otherwise ladylike demeanor gives way when the puck drops. “She’s hilarious to watch,” says Gary.

Then there’s their latest shared musical obsession – the Chicago-based heavy metal band Disturbed. “Their version of ‘Sounds of Silence’ is haunting,” she says.

“When they came to Dallas recently, we went to their concert,” adds Gary. “We probably looked a little out of place, but nobody seemed to mind.”

“See, we can be edgy, too!” Teresa quips.

Edgy or staid, the secret to their relationship is commitment – the promise to put each other first.

“We both tend to go with the flow,” says Gary. “We’re grateful for the opportunity to make the most of what it is or isn’t,” adds Teresa. They often complete each other’s thoughts.

Their latest opportunity – making the most of an out-of-the-blue invitation to attend the upcoming 91st Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 24th in Hollywood.

It’s an unlikely tale that not even a Hollywood scriptwriter could fashion.

A throne fit for a furry king

The story actually goes back nearly 25 years ago, when Gary – an admitted car guy – checked out Lexus and, admiring the brand’s comfort, beauty and sense of security, bought a GS300.

Several weeks later, it was Teresa’s first rescue dog, Lacey, who really sealed the deal with their second Lexus, an ES300, in what developed into a lasting relationship with Dallas-based Park Place Dealerships.

“I know how this sounds ,” she chuckles, “but Lacey traveled with me all the time and the car’s armrest wasn’t big enough for her to sit by me, so I had to say no.”

Undaunted, their sales rep, Carl Keith, went to his home garage and fashioned a custom, leather-clad doggy perch. He called Teresa and showed her the homemade accessory. She welled up and bought the car “in three minutes flat.”

“I was blown away,” says Gary. That show of dedication from the dealership led to a relationship that continues to this day. In fact, Gary has acquired an astonishingly unbroken line of 18 Lexus vehicles from Park Place.

“We want our clients to think of Park Place as ‘My Place,” explains Dave Evans, Park Place Dealerships Chief Marketing Officer. “Park Place team members are committed every day to create an ownership experience that can’t be found anywhere else. Our clients have fabulous stories about Park Place members who have gone above and beyond to make their experience memorable and we are sharing some of those stories through the “My Place” campaign starting with the Klembaras.”

The campaign kicks off locally during the Academy Awards show on Sunday, February 24.

“We thought it only fitting that our stars, Teresa and Gary Klembara, should go to Hollywood and enjoy the Academy Award experience,” said Evans. “This is our way to say ‘thank you’ for their commitment to Park Place.”

So the burning question – what designer will they wear?

“Probably jeans and cowboy boots,” Gary grins.

“Texas chic!” Teresa pipes up. “We’ll represent Texas in all its glory. What do you think, Brody?”

Hearing his name, the rescue pup’s ears perk up and he answers with a lively bark.

Meanwhile, Carl Keith, the Park Place Lexus sales manager, is happy to play “best supporting” role in this story.

Tune into the Academy awards and @parkplacetexas to learn more about the “My Place” story this weekend.

Park Place Jaguar Wins in 2018

Still known as one of the “newer kids” on the block, Park Place Jaguar Land Rover DFW’s General Manager Matt Woolsey, and all of his team members, have worked diligently to represent the true client-first philosophy from Park Place. Earlier this month, Jaguar recognized those efforts, with the store earning “Pride of Jaguar’ for the 2018/2019 year.

What is Pride of Jaguar?

Park Place’s previous location in Plano was no stranger to such accolades, which makes this win all the more exciting for the Grapevine based dealer. The Pride of Jaguar is awarded annually to 12 retailers, out of over 300 network dealers, who have demonstrated a commitment to excellence to the Jaguar brand.  The 12 dealers are chosen based off the merits of customer advocacy, sales, and after-sales success.

The Jaguar-Land Rover Dealer network managed a national increase in sales by 7% in 2018, and a 3.6% increase of Jaguar only.

Setting The PACE

Part of the success of the Jaguar brand included the release of the two PACE family models- the E-PACE and all-electric I-PACE.

Park Place Jaguar DFW is honored to receive this award as a true testament to member dedication, grit in the midst of opening a new location, and to the people-first approach our team is continually striving to provide.

Thank you to our Grapevine Community for welcoming us, trusting us, and for choosing Jaguar Land Rover DFW as your place. Thank you to all of our team members, from Service Valets and Car Washers, to Sales Managers, and Assistant Service Directors etc., we couldn’t continue to improve our client experience without your continuous commitment to excellence.

The S60 is also the first model built in the United States plan in South Carolina, sporting a slicker look and powerful engine. Car and Driver commented on the sedan as a “formidable competitor in a way that it wasn’t before.” It still represents classic Volvo design language perfectly with emphasis on intuitive technology, safety innovations, sustainable power updates, and now a “bold attitude” to match.

McLaren Sales Up 29 Percent Locally While Manufacturer Hits Record Globally

DALLAS (January 8, 2019) – McLaren Dallas finished 2018 with a robust sales increase of 29% over the previous year spurred by demand for new models.

“We delivered our first of the new Ultimate Series cars, the McLaren Senna, in 2018,” said Heath Strayhan, general manager of Park Place Premier Collection. “Each of these vehicles contained highly bespoke McLaren Special Operations content.”

McLaren Special Operations (MSO) undertakes special vehicle commissions and customization. More customers are now choosing to add unique, personal touches to their vehicles, which has caused MSO orders to triple over the past year.

Global sales for McLaren Automotive were up 43.9 percent. McLaren has increased sales every year since its formation in 2010. North America, which represents McLaren’s largest single market and over a third of global sales, surpassed 5,000 cars sold since sales started in 2011. McLaren enjoyed another year of record growth.

The company celebrated building its 15,000th car last summer at the McLaren Production Centre (MPC) in Woking, Surrey, England, where all its cars are hand-assembled. The plant consistently built more than 20 cars per day with exports to over 30 markets.

The MPC also built its most varied mix of products yet, including examples from each of the company’s now firmly established Sports, Super and Ultimate Series lines. In addition to the McLaren Senna and 600LT, the company launched the first two of 18 new products under its Track25  business plan: the fully deposited Speedtail and the 720S Spider.

“By the fourth quarter of 2018, we began deliveries of the Longtail version of the 600LT,” explained Strayhan. “We recently delivered a McLaren 570S GT4, a high performance track car, to a McLaren Dallas client. Powered by the Sports Series’ twin-turbo V8, the GT4 features a new wide body with a high-level rear wing. New for 2019 will be the highly anticipated 720S Spider, which will begin delivery this quarter. Our clients are very excited about all the options available and the ability to customize their car to be one of one.”

In November, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the Crown Prince of Bahrain opened McLaren’s second ever facility, the McLaren Composites Technology Centre in the Sheffield region.

It will help the company to innovate and produce lightweight carbon fiber ‘tubs’ that will enable it to deliver the lightest in class products and win what McLaren Automotive CEO Mike Flewitt has described as the new ‘lightweight race’ versus the traditional ‘power race.’

“We now have greater control over our core component – the carbon fibre chassis at the heart of all our cars that gives them – and our customers – a unique performance edge,” stated Flewitt. “Our new MCTC facility ramps-up to full production later this year as we move to full hybrid for our sportscars and supercars by 2025.”

McLaren Dallas, located at 5300 Lemmon Avenue, is part of the Park Place Premier Collection, which includes Maserati Dallas, Bentley Dallas and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Dallas.

Etiquette Do’s and Don’ts of a Luxury & Supercar Showcase

“A car show is like a museum- the same rules apply.”

Come October 13th, Park Place Dealerships, Car Collectors, and local partners will come together at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas to celebrate the rare, the exotic, and the high-performance at an event that puts the “SUPER” in supercar.

In our 2nd Annual Showcase, we have an expanded Concours with 10 classes of vehicles to tickle your fancy- including Supercar, International, Race Cars, and American Muscle.  We are elated to welcome you on the Concours for an experience like none-other in Dallas-Fort Worth. So whether you are a car show pro or an infrequent goer to such events, we want to ensure you are prepped and ready to enjoy your Concours Experience to fullest while keeping our Collectors’ Cars in pristine condition throughout the day.

We consulted with industry experts and Collectors for the top 3 Concours Commandments for guests to follow for an elevated supercar showcase and concours experience:

First, Don’t Touch Without Permission From the Collector.

This is quite possibly the most important commandment for guests and collectors alike. The cars that will be featured on the Concours are not just a car, they are pieces of art and history and should be treated as such.  Sean Walker of Hagerty Classic Cars likens a show field to that of a museum- “the same rules apply.” Leaning on or trying to sit in the cars, while seemingly harmless, should be avoided out of respect for the cars and their collectors.

Additionally, this commandment extends to being mindful of your accessories. Whether it be a metal belt buckle, bangles, a refreshing beverage, or a savory bite from our local chefs- all these items can be the source of unintentional scratches, grease marks, or spills. Simply be mindful, and you’ll be just fine.

But, Do Treat the Cars Like Works of Art and Ask First

Our collectors may be perfectly fine with you snapping a quick photo or opening the door to get a close-up view of their pride and joy, but it’s key to ask their permission first. Brian Ratcliff of Ratcliff Financial Services INC., and seasoned collector, suggests a distance of 2-3 feet from the vehicle.

Second, Don’t Not Ask the Collector Questions

Remember the rule of a double negative? Well, this don’t is actually a do: Do ask questions. With so much history congregated on our Concours, it’s pertinent to indulge your car curiosity and our collector’s pride in their submissions. Every car has a story and most likely, the Collector will be more than delighted to share it with you. Remember that these cars are typically the result of a requited passion, and each person may have a different reason as to why they became a collector or what sparked their interest.

But, Do Ask Questions and Permission for Photos

With repetition comes emphasis. “It’s not just a car- there’s a story behind every single one of them,” says Walker. With over 100 collectors, there’s something new to learn about your favorite American Muscle car or sleek Italian driving machine. Get the full story by asking the person behind the plaque, and then ask their permission for a photo so the memory can be shared.

Finally, Don’t Skip, but Do Attend the Awards Ceremony.

The Collectors’ Concours is being evaluated by a panel of highly qualified judges to name Best In Show and Best In Class. This year, the awards will be presented on our Lexus Live stage, making it an exciting and energetic apex of the Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase. Keep these three Concours Commandments in mind, and you’ll be set for an exceptional showcase experience, so reserve your VIP experience via the link below.

We’ll see you on the Concours!

Park Place Brings Real-World Experience into Lewisville ISD Classroom

Park Place Dealerships provides Lewisville ISD Automotive Technology program new equipment, tools, mentors and hands-on career opportunities

Automotive programs in high schools have come a long way in the past 30 years. Think back to dimly lit, unorganized, dirty shops where students were challenged by outdated technology and insufficient tools.

Thanks to a unique public-private partnership, Lewisville ISD has a team of teaching professionals who engage students daily and work with companies like Park Place Dealerships, an auto industry leader, to prepare students for real-world applications.

“The community engagement with Park Place gives us access to current technology and information so we are teaching our students the most up to date material,” explained Doug Emery, Automotive Technology Instructor at Lewisville ISD’s Career Center East. “We want to make sure our students are familiar with the systems, technology and equipment that dealerships are using to ensure our students are successful in the marketplace.”

Park Place is continually looking to develop the highest quality technicians for its 17 full-service dealerships located across Dallas-Fort Worth, while Lewisville ISD is always seeking career opportunities for students. This innovative public-private partnership between Park Place and Lewisville ISD provides access to master technicians, general managers, human resources, talent acquisition, service managers, and leadership from the 2000-member company.

There are tangible benefits to the students. Park Place hired seven 2018 graduates of the program as technicians at its Jaguar/Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus dealerships in Grapevine.

“The program really helped me choose a path,” said Raul Martinez, one of the 2018 grads currently working at Park Place Jaguar/Land Rover Grapevine. “Before, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I was sort of lost.  When we started working on cars I realized this was something I really enjoyed doing.”

Park Place also brings experts from different areas of the industry into the classroom as mentors.

“As we grow, we are continually looking for individuals that can be successful in our industry,” said Tony Carimi, vice-president of Operations for Park Place. “Our industry is quickly evolving so we want to expose students to the latest technology and advances in a real-world environment that focuses on personal attention and strong mentorships.”

Working with the teachers, Park Place is fully engaged with interviewing students, branding the shop with graphics of high-end manufacturers’ logos, connecting with parents and district representatives and speaking at events.

“Park Place technicians who have been in the field a long time have come into our classroom,” explained Travis Sutton, the LISD program’s other Automotive Technology Instructor. “They bring first-hand knowledge of what our students can expect, how things work and what they’ll experience in the shop. Park Place upper management comes into the classroom to tell our students they can have more than a job – they can have a career. It shows the students that what they’re learning on campus transfers directly out there.”

Park Place has a similar partnership with the John Dubiski Career High School in Grand Prairie ISD. Students are fully engaged with Park Place and a dozen students have been hired to full-time positions after graduation.

“We’re always looking to the future,” concluded Carimi. “The auto industry is evolving at a more rapid pace than ever before in its 100-plus-year history. With alternative energy sources, computerized systems and autonomous vehicles, the need for a highly educated and well-trained workforce is more important than ever. Park Place is determined to remain the leaders within our industry.”

Ken Schnitzer founded Park Place Dealerships in 1987 with a single Mercedes-Benz dealership on Oak Lawn. Volvo XC60 Named “Best Luxury Compact SUV of 2018” by Cars.com

The XC60 scored a decisive victory over the competition and was considered to be the best in terms of monetary value in one of the most competitive sectors of the automotive market.

This week saw a team of editors from Cars.com, a leading digital automotive marketplace, select the Volvo XC60 as the market’s best compact SUV. The XC60 scored a decisive victory over the competition and was considered to be the best in terms of monetary value in one of the most competitive sectors of the automotive market.

The evaluation pitted seven of the top compact SUVs from around the world against each other in a week-long test spanning cities, suburbs, and drag strips. Vehicles were evaluated in 13 categories: interior quality, front-seat comfort, backseat comfort, cargo storage, in-cabin storage, multimedia features, convenience features, handling, powertrain, ride quality, noise, visibility and monetary worth.

The XC60 stole the show, placing first in eight categories and tying for first in another. Judges praised the XC60’s technology, luxury quality, and considered it to showcase the best rear seat of the group in terms of headroom. Further compliments went to the stylish interior and attention to detail — such as the sleek wood trim dashboard, and the addition of metallic accents across the air vents.

Volvo also took home the highest scores in safety, keeping in line with its rich history of automotive safety innovations.

“Its winning combination of comprehensive technology, practicality, and quality, combined with safety features and value, are what propelled it to the top spot”, said Jenni Newman, Cars.com’s editor-in-chief.

The accolade will be added to a growing list for the 2018 XC60. One that already includes: World Car of the Year (2018), North American Utility Vehicle of the Year (2018), Best of New York Auto Show (2017), SUV of Texas (2018), and Car Connection’s Best Crossover to Buy (2018).

The final rankings for each tested vehicle were as follows:

  1. 2018 Volvo XC60
  2. 2018 Audi Q5
  3. 2019 Infiniti QX50
  4. 2018 Cadillac XT5
  5. 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio
  6. 2018 BMW X3
  7. 2018 Lexus NX 300

The Most Anticipated Rolls-Royce of All-Time: the Rolls-Royce Cullinan

“Tested to destruction” all over the planet, the Rolls-Royce Cullinan finally brings real luxury to the off-road experience and is primed to be one of many highlights of the Luxury & Supercar Showcase. The Rolls-Royce Cullinan will be featured at the 2018 Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase, bringing most attendees their first look at the automaker’s blend of luxury and off-road travel.

While it may not be the first luxury brand to include an SUV in its lineup, Rolls-Royce is determined to have the best one, and its name is Cullinan. This is Rolls-Royce as it’s never been seen before. When Sir Henry Royce said, “Strive for perfection in everything you do. Take the best that exists and make it better. When it does not exist, design it”, he may have had the Cullinan in mind.

Rolls-Royce has introduced an all-terrain, high-bodied car that makes the idea of authentic, luxury off-road travel a reality for the first time. Luxury travel is now effortless and everywhere.

Twelve Cylinders & a Whole Lot of Tech

Rolls-Royce has a history of genuine off-road credentials. In the early 20th century, Rolls-Royce vehicles quickly developed a reputation for reliability and durability in extreme conditions. Maharajas in India drove Rolls-Royces along rough and rugged dirt roads — as did wealthy sheep farmers through the Australian terrain. Lawrence of Arabia commanded a fleet of nine Rolls-Royces in the Sinai Desert during World War I, six of them bodied as armored cars. So an off-road SUV may have always been in the automaker’s natural progression.

Under the Cullinan’s hood is a 6.75 liter, twin-turbo V12 pushing out 563 horsepower and 627 pound-feet of torque. This is the same engine Rolls-Royce uses for its iconic Phantom, which also shares the SUV’s aluminum-intensive platform. The famous “magic air ride” feel that rendered the Phantom peerless has also been re-engineered by adding larger air struts with greater air volume, and by strengthening the drive and prop shafts to cushion blows from the toughest terrain.

Featuring all-new, all-wheel drive and an all-wheel steering system — the first in Rolls-Royce history — the Cullinan reaches a top speed of 155 miles per hour.

Inside, Rolls-Royce unveils a new, thicker steering wheel for the Cullinan, augmented with a high-resolution, heads-up display and all the expected technology from the luxury giant: night vision, including wildlife and pedestrian warning, a four-camera parking system with panoramic and helicopter view, active cruise control, myriad crash-avoidance systems, Wi-Fi, and the standard navigation and entertainment systems. The first “three-box” car in the SUV-sector, Cullinan’s rear partition wall separates passengers from the luggage compartment to create a unique comfort and luxury environment.

The Final Challenge

In a series of online videos, the Rolls-Royce teamed with National Geographic to debut the Cullinan’s capabilities. The episodes document the vehicle conquering three continents and 12,000 miles of the world’s toughest terrain — including deserts, mountains, and tundra — and navigating the roughest conditions with ease.

Breathtaking camera work showcases the vehicle’s unique Rolls-Royce aluminum space frame, rear-axle steering and all-wheel drive making smooth work of each “extreme” terrain. Check out more information on the final challenge here, or view the full episodes here.

Simply Put — It’s Pronounced

The imposing frame of the Cullinan stands six feet off the ground—four inches taller than its closest competitor — the Bentayga — and more than 500 pounds heavier. Contemporary and functional design ensures the Cullinan will gain iconic status in the face of increasingly bland SUV designs.

Approach the Cullinan and it lowers roughly 1.5 inches for easy entry, rising back to normal position upon startup. The air suspension has adaptive damping and was built specifically with a degree of off-road luxury in mind — but a Rolls-Royce kind of off-roading, with a spotlight on smooth transitions. A lone off-road button is all it takes to prep the vehicle for whatever terrain you can throw at it, and it will even ford over 21 inches of water if needed.

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to see the incredibly capable off-roader in person at the 2018 Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase — tickets of all levels are available at LuxurySuperCarShowcase.com

Park Place Porsche Opens In Grapevine

Park Place Dealerships opened its 17th dealership, Park Place Porsche, today in Grapevine, Texas. The two-story, 68,000-square-foot Porsche dealership is situated on five acres and is located off Texan Trail and SH 114 near Park Place Motorcars, Park Place Lexus and Park Place Jaguar Land Rover.

With a thirst for the product coupled with the brand’s reputation for providing a great driving experience, Porsche enthusiasts will appreciate Park Place Porsche Grapevine’s new showrooms which can accommodate up to 21 different vehicles. Visitors will see the full range of models, such as the 911, Cayman, Boxster, Panamera, Macan, and Cayenne.

“This is one of the largest Porsche dealerships in the country and we designed the space to bring the brand to life so clients can explore the iconic brand making the experience their own,” said Ken Schnitzer, chairman of Park Place Dealerships. “Porsche has a long and renowned history with a loyal customer base that continues to grow. With the new Macan and 911 coming out in the next year, Northeast Tarrant County is a prime location for this brand.”

Porsche Cars North America recently announced retail sales in June were up 8.3 percent compared to year-over-year sales, recording the sixth consecutive monthly record since January. The United States is the largest single market for Porsche, with U.S. buyers accounting for 28 percent of 911 purchases worldwide.

“The expansion of Porsche into Northeast Tarrant County allows us to introduce the brand to potential new owners and to better meet the needs of current clients,” said Schnitzer. “With a facility of this size, we have lots of room for clients to experience every Porsche model in a comfortable setting year-round and to service their vehicle in our state-of-the-art service center.”

The multi-million-dollar project features a shop with 28 service bays, a comfortable client lounge, boutique, and a large service drive for the optimum client experience.  Park Place Porsche Grapevine will be LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified based on the building’s focus on energy savings, water, resources, and generating less waste. Good, Fulton & Farrell was the architectural firm for the project with Hill & Wilkinson handling the general contractor duties.

This is the second Porsche dealership for the company and the fourth dealership in Grapevine which opened Park Place Lexus in 2000, followed by Park Place Motorcars relocating from Bedford in 2011, and Park Place Land Rover Jaguar opening last July. Park Place continues to lead the automotive industry with innovative offerings such as a subscription service. Launched earlier this year, Park Place Select is the first subscription service offered in Texas by a dealership group and offers subscribers three tiers of vehicles to align with a client’s lifestyle and budget.

Park Place also opened an auction house this year in Plano for registered dealers and wholesalers. Park Place Auto Auction offers hundreds of vehicles each week from its dealerships across North Texas.

Ken Schnitzer founded Park Place Dealerships in 1987 with a single Mercedes-Benz dealership on Oak Lawn. Today, Park Place Dealerships employs more than 2,000 people at 17 full-service dealerships representing luxury brands including Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Volvo, Land Rover, Jaguar, Lotus, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, McLaren, and Maserati.
