The 2nd Annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase Shone Brightly Even in the Rain

Park Place Dealerships donates $55k Sprinter
to Salesmanship Club’s Momentous Institute

Rain or shine. Many outdoor events casually use the term, but few shine in the midst of challenges like the 2nd annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase did on October 13th at the Four Seasons Resort & Club Dallas at Las Colinas.

“It was an exciting day in a lot of ways,” said Ken Schnitzer, Park Place Dealerships founder and chairman. “The rain didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of guests and we were able to execute the Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase for the nearly 3,000 people who attended. Many of the private collectors brought their rare and pristine cars out to display them in the Collector’s Concours. The Porsche Club – Maverick Region came together to create an amazing Heritage Display to celebrate Porsche’s 70th anniversary. And we were able to support a wonderful charitable partner in a big way.”

The event benefitted the Momentous Institute, owned and operated by the Salesmanship Club of Dallas since 1920. Each year, the organization serves more than 6,000 children and family members through its nationally acclaimed Momentous School and innovative Therapeutic Services. Schnitzer presented Patton Chapman, Salesmanship Club president, with the keys to a $55,000 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van to help the organization with its transportation needs for the kids.

Throughout the day, guests saw more than $100 million worth of rare and unique vehicles from manufacturers, collectors and car clubs, including the first public display of the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, the iconic marque’s first ever SUV. Guests also enjoyed live entertainment, incredible food and beverages, as well as a Highland Park Village fashion show produced by Jan Strimple.

Parents even watched their kids play in the rain, driving miniature electric versions of Porsche, McLaren, Volvo, Bentley, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus vehicles on the pavestone path. Guests also had the opportunity to meet 16-year-old racecar driver Kinzie “Kiki” Wilson. Featured in her red, racing shirt on the right of her Corvette, the Mansfield Legacy High School Junior is also the Varsity Cheer Captain while maintaining a 3.95 GPA.

Dallas’ Mad Hatter Shane Walker helped judge the Haute Hat Contest. The Lady’s Haute Hat winner was Anna Neiman (below) with a stylish Rolls-Royce-inspired hat that included working lights.

As the day drew to a close, the top three award winners from the Collector’s Concours were presented with the “Spirit of Park Place,” a hand-crafted sculpture by Dallas artist Brad Oldham.

  • Best of Show went to Randy Johnson for his 1966 Ferrari 275 GTB 6C.

Safety First with National Child Passenger Safety Week

For parents, nothing comes before their child’s safety. Yet according to the Center for Disease Control, 59 percent of car seats are used incorrectly, limiting their ability to effectively protect.  It’s National Child Passenger Safety Week, and Park Place Volvo Cars is devoted to upholding our manufacturer’s vision for safety. Our team couldn’t be more proud to sell vehicles we know are some of the safest in the world, providing our clients with that extra ease of mind that they and their child passengers are safe on their journeys

Of particular note, the Volvo XC60 (one of our most popular family luxury compact SUVs) is one of the most awarded vehicles in Volvo’s history, including the prestigious the overall safest car in Euro NCAP 2017 Best in Class safety awards and the ‘World Car of the Year’ and ‘Best Luxury Compact SUV’ by Cars.com.

The awards speak volumes that with every new model that is released and all improvements or updates made to the new model years that Volvo Cars is well on their way to meeting their Vision 20/20: Our vision is that by 2020 no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car.”

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), every 33 seconds, one child under the age of 13 is involved in a crash and many times deaths and injuries can be prevented by proper use of car seats, boosters, and seat belts. The effects of an improperly installed car seat are all too real, which is why you’ll typically find that if a dealership or service does not have a Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician, they will forgo reinstalling car seats and recommend a certified tech to do so after a service.

This Saturday ends National Child Passenger Safety week with Car Seat Check Saturday, where Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians, will at the bare minimum check your car seat for free. The Certified Child Passenger Safety Technician will educate parents about choosing the right car seat for a child, installing a car seat correctly in their vehicle, and using the car seat acceptably every time. They can also discuss the importance of registering the car seat with its manufacturer, and what to expect if the seat is subject to a safety recall.

Park Place Volvo works closely with many locations who have a Certified Technician available in the Dallas area and highly encourage that you make an appointment or show up to a location nearest you to have your car seats. checked.  For a list of locations to get your car seat checked Saturday (or any time) visit http://cert.safekids.org/get-car-seat-checked

“Car seats matter and having the right car seat installed and used correctly is critical, ” says Donny Lambrecht, general manager of Park Place Volvo.  In passenger cars, car seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers. Improving child safety in Volvo vehicles has long been a guiding principle with the manufacturer. Did you know that Volvo Cars played a key role in the development of rearward-facing child seats and introduced the world’s first booster cushion in 1978? Today, the company continues to innovate using technology and expertise to build the safest cars.

Park Place Brings Real-World Experience into Lewisville ISD Classroom

Park Place Dealerships provides Lewisville ISD Automotive Technology program new equipment, tools, mentors and hands-on career opportunities

Automotive programs in high schools have come a long way in the past 30 years. Think back to dimly lit, unorganized, dirty shops where students were challenged by outdated technology and insufficient tools.

Thanks to a unique public-private partnership, Lewisville ISD has a team of teaching professionals who engage students daily and work with companies like Park Place Dealerships, an auto industry leader, to prepare students for real-world applications.

“The community engagement with Park Place gives us access to current technology and information so we are teaching our students the most up to date material,” explained Doug Emery, Automotive Technology Instructor at Lewisville ISD’s Career Center East. “We want to make sure our students are familiar with the systems, technology and equipment that dealerships are using to ensure our students are successful in the marketplace.”

Park Place is continually looking to develop the highest quality technicians for its 17 full-service dealerships located across Dallas-Fort Worth, while Lewisville ISD is always seeking career opportunities for students. This innovative public-private partnership between Park Place and Lewisville ISD provides access to master technicians, general managers, human resources, talent acquisition, service managers, and leadership from the 2000-member company.

There are tangible benefits to the students. Park Place hired seven 2018 graduates of the program as technicians at its Jaguar/Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz and Lexus dealerships in Grapevine.

“The program really helped me choose a path,” said Raul Martinez, one of the 2018 grads currently working at Park Place Jaguar/Land Rover Grapevine. “Before, I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do. I was sort of lost.  When we started working on cars I realized this was something I really enjoyed doing.”

Park Place also brings experts from different areas of the industry into the classroom as mentors.

“As we grow, we are continually looking for individuals that can be successful in our industry,” said Tony Carimi, vice-president of Operations for Park Place. “Our industry is quickly evolving so we want to expose students to the latest technology and advances in a real-world environment that focuses on personal attention and strong mentorships.”

Working with the teachers, Park Place is fully engaged with interviewing students, branding the shop with graphics of high-end manufacturers’ logos, connecting with parents and district representatives and speaking at events.

“Park Place technicians who have been in the field a long time have come into our classroom,” explained Travis Sutton, the LISD program’s other Automotive Technology Instructor. “They bring first-hand knowledge of what our students can expect, how things work and what they’ll experience in the shop. Park Place upper management comes into the classroom to tell our students they can have more than a job – they can have a career. It shows the students that what they’re learning on campus transfers directly out there.”

Park Place has a similar partnership with the John Dubiski Career High School in Grand Prairie ISD. Students are fully engaged with Park Place and a dozen students have been hired to full-time positions after graduation.

“We’re always looking to the future,” concluded Carimi. “The auto industry is evolving at a more rapid pace than ever before in its 100-plus-year history. With alternative energy sources, computerized systems and autonomous vehicles, the need for a highly educated and well-trained workforce is more important than ever. Park Place is determined to remain the leaders within our industry.”

My Mercedes-Benz Saved My Life

Park Place Motorcars Fort Worth Mercedes-Benz E-300
helps local woman avoid catastrophe on US-75

“My car saved my life!” exclaimed Pamela Haney. “On the afternoon of Monday, July 9th, I was entering Central Expressway at Lovers Lane via the entrance ramp. The speed limit on US-75 is 70 mph, so I was accelerating when the car in front of me suddenly peels off, revealing a flatbed tow truck stranded on the entrance ramp.”

Ms. Haney’s 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-300 is equipped with automatic braking and evasive steering assist to avoid or mitigate a crash. This safety feature in Mercedes-Benz has been bundled with forward-collision warning for a while, but the newer E-class models initiate braking earlier when the system detects an evasive maneuver is not practical.

“I didn’t even have time to react,” continued Haney, owner of Productivity Solutions, a North Texas paralegal services company. “I instinctively braced for impact as I saw the flatbed was going to come right through my windshield. My E-300 stopped the car for me! It didn’t skid. It didn’t waver or shimmy. It just stopped on a dime! I sat there for a minute stunned with the steel bed just inches from my face. I looked up and the guys in the tow truck were looking back with their mouths open. I’m sure they thought I was a goner! In all seriousness, had I not been in this car, I probably would be dead.”

The Pre-Safe Protection System offers Supplemental Brake Assist Plus and Pre-Safe Brake with Pedestrian Recognition. A stereo camera and a series of long, medium and short-range radars monitors the area in front of the vehicle. The information is processed in a control unit to provide supplemental or autonomous braking to prevent collisions. Haney has been a Park Place client for more than 10 years. She raves about the consistent level of professionalism at the Fort Worth dealership. “I’ve never felt pressured,” she said. “I always feel safe and secure.”

“I am thankful Mercedes-Benz is an industry leader in safety features and our team of technicians are experts in keeping every vehicle in prime condition,” said Park Place Motorcars Fort Worth General Manager George Johnson. “I shared Pamela’s story with our whole team because they can be proud of the brand and dealership they represent.”

“You better believe I’m not ambivalent any more about the technology in my car,” gushed Haney. “I love, love, love my car! I’m a loyal Mercedes-Benz customer for life. And there’s no dissuading me from keeping my business at Park Place!”

Park Place Motorcars Fort Worth is located at 5601 Bryant Irvin Road, just south of I-20 and west of the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Help Raptors by Stuffing a Lexus Trunk at Park Place Lexus Plano

Park Place Lexus Plano collecting items for Blackland Prairie Raptor Center

When you hear Park Place Lexus Plano is helping raptors, you might think it’s a tie-in with the latest Jurassic Park movie.  But these raptors are even more awe-inspiring. The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center in Lucas rescues orphaned, sick and injured raptors – birds of prey such as eagles, ospreys, hawks, falcons, owls, kites and vultures. It treats the injured raptors, rehabilitates them, and then releases them back into the wild.

Founded in 2004, the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center is located on Lake Lavon in the 66-acre Brockdale Park. It is home to a permanent collection of 18 education raptors (birds who can never be released back into the wild due to the nature of their injuries,) an 8,000-square-foot flight cage, and a clinic to house up to 800 patients per year.

“I attended Blackland Prairie’s annual Ribs n’ Raptors fundraiser last fall,” said Greg Duerr, Park Place Lexus Plano Parts Manager. “I bid on a ‘Release the Raptor’ experience in the auction and had the opportunity to release a Red-tailed Hawk. It was such an incredible experience, I wanted to do more to help the organization. I talked with our leadership at Park Place Lexus and we came up with this Stuff the Trunk event to provide some basic materials the center needs on an ongoing basis.”

Park Place Lexus is collecting items through the end of July that includes: brooms, scrubbing pads, laundry detergent, bleach, hand soap, cotton balls & swabs, disposable exam gloves, paper towels, Ziploc bags, pill dividers, flashlights & batteries, leather gloves, safety glasses & goggles, box cutters, five-gallon buckets, wire snips, pliers, hammers, screwdrivers, 18v cordless drills, drill bit sets, deck screws, rakes, shovels, 25-foot tape measure, staple gun & staples, clamps (all sizes), WD40, heavy-duty hoses, copier paper, permanent markers, and more.

Donations are being collected daily 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Monday – Friday and 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Saturday until the end of July at the Lexus dealership: 6785 Dallas Parkway (W. Spring Creek Parkway at Dallas North Tollway) in Plano.

“Our largest expense is food for the raptors,” said Erich Neupert, Blackland Prairie Raptor Center Executive Director.  “We spent more than $30,000 last year on food. People can donate online at bpraptorcenter.org/donations/or through the AmazonSmile program. Just select the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center as your designated charity while shopping on AmazonSmile.com and we receive a portion of every purchase.”

The Blackland Prairie Raptor Center is open to the pubic the first Saturday of every month at 1625 Brockdale Park Road (off FM3286) in Lucas. Ribs n’ Raptors will be held in November 2018. More information is available at http://www.bpraptorcenter.org

“If you find a baby bird on the ground, the best thing to do is just leave them alone,” explained Neupert. “If they look injured, give us a call at 972-442-7607.”

Summer Cruising 101: How to Protect Yourself From Summer UV Rays

Imagine driving down the freeway with the top-down, feeling the shift in the wind against your skin and seamlessly embracing each and every curve on the open road. Is there anything that beats this type of driving experience on a sunny day? Not at all, but with the summer sun comes some serious risk for drivers and passengers without proper sun protection.

Park Place works with our community of local business to enhance our client experience, and provide clients with exclusive offers to enjoy because we simply appreciate that you chose Park Place as Your Place. TropicSport, a Park Place Preferred Partner, gives us the scoop on some best practices to protect your skin and the environment so your car’s top can stay down all summer long. Tropicsport is kindly offering 20% off an online order  with the code PARKPLACE20%

UVA vs UVB:  What’s the Difference?

There are 2 types of harmful UV rays from the sun:  UVA and UVB.  UVA (think A for Aging) rays have a longer wavelength and cause more long-term effects such as wrinkling and aging of the skin – and of far greater concern – skin cancer.   UVA rays are year round, they are not temperature dependent or even impacted by weather as 80% penetrates the fog and clouds.  UVB (think B for Burning) rays have a shorter wavelength and are the ones that cause sunburn and skin cancer.

Don’t the Windows Protect me from UV Rays?

While car windshields typically block out UVB rays, studies show that they only partially block UVA rays.  Side and back are not regulated and let these rays in.

A study in the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology revealed that nearly 53% of skin cancers in the US occur on the left, or driver’s side of the body.  UV exposure is 5 times greater on the left arm and 20 times greater on the left side of the face!  This left-side sun exposure triggers sun damage, which can cause wrinkles, skin leathering, sagging and brown ‘age’ spots.  The more time you spend driving, the higher the risk of skin damage.  Research shows that all types of skin cancers are more common on the left side of the body. Add the right side and the top of your head, and sure, the breeze feels great but you may not realize just how strong the sun is.

Do not fret, your top-down luxury cars are still perfect for the summer. We just recommend taking some of the pointers below into account, so you and your luxury auto can enjoy the sun all summer long:

1. Wear an SPF 30 Broad Spectrum Sunscreen which protects against both UVA and UVB rays.

  • Apply sunscreen before getting into the car to your face, ears, arms, neck, scalp & hair part.

2.  Wear SPF 30 Lipblam and Reapply sunscreen every 2 hours.

3. Wear a hat, preferably a wide brim, and Sunglasses with UVA and UVB filters to protect your eyes from cataracts and delicate skin around your eyes.

  • Pro-Tip: long sleeves are a great option to protect your arms.

4. Consider closing your convertible roof between the peak sun hours of 10 am to 2 pm to avoid a major, direct sun hit.

So now you know how to protect yourself, but what will you choose to arm yourself with against the sun? We would highly recommend TropicSport sunscreen because it’s Born from Nature.  It is a natural mineral sunscreen with non-nano titanium dioxide and zinc oxide and lacks ingredients that are hard to pronounce. TropicSport is free of toxic chemicals like oxybenzone and avobenzone.

Remember, an ounce of prevention – or sunscreen, in this case – is worth a pound of cure! TropicSport is offering Park Place Clients 20% off with the code PARKPLACE20% at www.TropicSport.com

TropicSport is one of our newest preferred partners, so as a Park Place client we encourage you to visit them and take advantage of their exclusive offer of 20% using the code PARKPLACE20%

Porsche Marks 70th Anniversary with Epic Celebration in Dallas

Park Place Porsche hosts Cattle Baron’s Ball members and Porsche enthusiasts

From the first Porsche, the Porsche 356 “No. 1” Roadster introduced in 1948, Porsche has pushed the limits to design the ultimate sportscar. But Porsche was never meant to be enjoyed alone…it was designed for two. So Porsche dealerships worldwide recently celebrated the 70th anniversary with a Sportscar Together Day.

Park Place Porsche invited the Porsche Club of America – Maverick Region to bring a wide range of Porsche 911s representing every year from 1967 to 2018 to the Lemmon Avenue dealership for a celebration of the best of German design and engineering. And the best in food, drink, and music as well, of course.

Guests enjoyed Monkey Shoulder Whiskey cocktails mixed by a special industrial-sized mixer in the form of a stylized concrete mixer truck. In addition, Park Place’s partners served craft beers by Unlawful Assembly, bourbon from Hudson Whiskey, and beverages including the Reyka Stuttgart Mule with grilled bratwurst by Degenhardt’s Brat Haus. Sunnyland Outdoor Furniture provided comfortable lounges for guests to relax in. Additional partners included Frost 321, Garages of Texas, and TropicSport.

Cattle Baron’s Ball members were on hand to promote the upcoming October 20 event to be held at Gilley’s Dallas. Since 1974, the Cattle Baron’s Ball has raised more than $77 million for cancer research, making the Dallas event the largest single-night fundraiser for the American Cancer Society.

Looking forward to the future of Porsche Performance, the new Mission E will combine the “distinctive emotional design of a Porsche, exceptional driving performance, and forward thinking with everyday functionality.” It will match a 600 horsepower engine with a range of about 310 miles, and acceleration from 0 – 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds.  This all-electric Porsche will feature a charging time of 15 minutes for approximately 80% capacity, combining time-saving value with electric vehicle mobility.

Park Place Porsche is located at 6113 Lemmon Avenue, near Love Field. Park Place will open its 17th dealership on July 23 with the addition of the new Park Place Porsche Grapevine.

The second annual Park Place Luxury & Supercar Showcase, benefiting the Momentous Institute, is scheduled for 10 am – 4 pm October 13 at the Four Seasons Resort and Club Dallas at Las Colinas. Within the family-friendly event will be a juried Collectors Concours featuring rare classic, luxury and supercars from private collectors. The event will also feature a fashion show by Highland Park Village, live music, specialty boutiques, and a Kid’s Concours area. Park Place will also showcase some of the latest models of their coveted brands, including Rolls-Royce, Bugatti, Maserati, McLaren, Bentley, Porsche, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Volvo, Jaguar, Land Rover and Lotus. 2018 Park Place Dealerships – Texas Rangers Triple Play Game Show Spectacular Raises $750,000

Fundraiser Benefits Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation’s Efforts to Help Area Youth

In keeping with the “Sultan’s Soirée” theme, magic-filled The Hilton Anatole ballroom for the Park Place Dealerships Texas Rangers Triple Play Game Show Spectacular event.

Bedazzled and bejeweled, the Texas Rangers largest fundraising event of the year featured a roaming snake charmer and an opportunity for a photo op with a camel. Wishes were granted as fans met their diamond heroes and bid on trips they’d only dreamed about their whole lives. But the biggest winners of the 2018 Park Place Dealerships Texas Rangers Triple Play are the kids that will benefit from the nearly $750,000 raised for the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation.

“This was one of the most successful Triple Play events we’ve ever had,” said Karin Morris, executive director of the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation. “Demand for our exclusive experiences in the live auction was so strong that we were able to duplicate several of the trips to double the amount raised. Our Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, which was only a dream just a few years ago, is open and serving kids from across North Texas because of funds raised from previous years of the Park Place Dealerships Texas Rangers Triple Play.”

The event featured attendance by Texas Rangers players, coaches, broadcasters, and alumni. Fans enjoyed unparalleled access to their favorite Rangers for autographs, photos and just chatting about baseball.

“We’re very proud to be associated with such a worthy cause,” said Gary Venner, general manager of Park Place Lexus Grapevine. “Seeing how the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation has grown over the years, and all the great things they are doing for kids, makes this one of our favorite charitable events of the year.”

The highlight of the evening was the Rangers players competing against each other in a pair of hilarious game shows. This year’s competitions included the fan favorite Fielders Feud and Wheel of Fortune. The teams were made up of the following players: Fielders Feud: Infielders: Elvis Andrus, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Joey Gallo, and Jurickson Profar. Outfielders: Shin-Soo Choo, Delino DeShields, Nomar Mazara, and Ryan Rua. The infielders dominated Fielders Feud, emceed by Hall of Fame announcer Eric Nadel. The crowd roared with laughter at some of the players’ answers and the witty banter between them.

Fox Sports Southwest Field Reporter Emily Jones hosted Wheel of Fortune, which matched a trio of two-man teams against each other: Team #1 Tony Barnette and Jake Diekman; Team #2 Jesse Chavez and Chris Martin; Team #3 Doug Fister and Kevin Jepsen. Pitchers Fister and Jepsen were obviously on the same wavelength as they handily won Wheel of Fortune.

Among the items available for bidding in the live auction were a trip to Los Angeles to watch the Rangers play the Los Angeles Dodgers; a trip to Boston for the Rangers – Red Sox series at Fenway Park; a trip to San Francisco and Napa Valley aboard Rangers owner Neil Liebman’s private jet; and a five-day hunting and fishing trip to Argentina hosted by former Ranger All-Star Jim Kern.

In addition, the silent auction featured a Top Golf experience with Delino DeShields, on-field instruction and game-type experience hosted by Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister, private hitting and pitching lessons with current Rangers players, and many other exclusive experiences. In addition, there were rare and unusual autographed memorabilia items from across the sports and entertainment worlds.

ABOUT THE TEXAS RANGERS BASEBALL FOUNDATION: Since its inception in 1991, the Foundation has invested more than $30 million in our community to help children through support of programs including the Texas Rangers MLB Youth Academy at Mercy Street Sports Complex, presented by Toyota, youth health and wellness programs like the just keep livin programs, educational programs such as the Richard Greene Scholars program, and support of the military and first responders and their families.
